"HATE. It is a strong word. But one I have to use for the staff of this Portsmouth location. The office staff makes one very uncomfortable. I would suggest another location. Doctors routinely travel to other offices. Staff in VB is so much better. Beware of lies about insurance acceptance. It's a real thing and one really needs to check it out before receiving service here. The whole vibe of this 3-story office building is off. Notice it every time I enter their doors. Enter with caution."
"DECEIVING & MISLEADING!! If you enjoy waiting for 2+ hours & being herded like cattle from one waiting room to another, this is the place for you. They overbook appointments constantly! I'm expected to be on time, they should be as well. Be mindful of your insurance! They switch acceptance every 6 months or so! They scan your insurance card and accept your co-pay, never mentioning if there is a change...then hit you for another co-pay (?) at check out for the contact prescription. Then 2 months later receive a bill in the mail for the full amount of the appointment! Front desk employee turnover is so high, there's never the same person working."
"I am extremely disappointed in my experience with Tidewater Eye Center. Last fall I went in for a refraction for a new prescription. The technician mixed up my eyes on the prescription, so when I got my glasses, it was clear there was something very wrong. I went back to have my eyes checked again, and they discovered their error. I received a new prescription and was told that I would not be charged for the second visit. When my new prescription was ready, it still wasn't quite right, so I went back a third time. Each time I went back, I confirmed with both the technicians and at check out that they would not charge me for the additional visits which they confirmed, but they billed Medicare for those two visits and have been billing me for an additional $120 for 8 months now. And even though I have called and written to them about this, they have done nothing to correct it or reach out to me to discuss. Writing this bad review is my only hope that someone will take notice."
"I gave my insurance info on the phone days prior to my appointment and specifically asked if they accepted my insurance. I was told yes my insurance was accepted but after 2 visits I received a large bill for the full amount. I contacted billing and was told I should have been informed I was not in their network.The billing person I spoke with stated she would try to see if I could be self pay to lower my cost. I ended up paying over $850. Whether it was their employee's error during my initial phone call or an ethical issue, I believe they should have worked with me, as the information they provided me was false. The insurance coverage was my main concern when I called after I initially called my previous opthalmologist and they let me know they were no longer in network for my insurance. This was my whole reason for searching for someone that now accepted my insurance. I should have taken more time to contact my insurer but unfortunately trusted their response to me and needed to get in ASAP for my condition. While my care was fine, I would be very cautious of making an appointment until you contact your insurance company to verify you are covered. To me it's poor customer service at best. I hope this can help someone else to avoid the same circumstance."
