Reviews
"We stayed here for a week to ride the Hatfield and MCcoy trails. The place is very nice. Hank and Jamie are great and have a lot of info to share if you ask. The picture of the campground does not do it justice. There are several pull through sites for the big rigs like the photo shows but they also have back in sites that face the river. We had one of these and while the sites are close it was very quiet. People stay there to ride the trails so there are lot of machines coming and going but everyone was respectful. The Devil's Anse and Buffalo trials are easy to get to and Rock House isn't far. Jamie and her husband also own the Trailhead Bar and Grill in town. Ride your machine there for great food. We ate there 3 times and we never disappointed."
"This campground has all the basics for an enjoyable stay. We reserved a tent site for 5 nights, and after staying at many many campgrounds over the years, this was the first one that had a grassy area for tents, rather than dirt or sand. It was nice because there was no risk of accidentally setting my tent up on rocks or tracking dirt and sand into your tent. Our tent site was also close to the bath house which was convenient. The bath house also has a sufficient light outside for night time bathroom trips. The campground was generally quiet and we quite enjoyed the train especially since it is a big part of Kentucky history. Personally the train did not wake me up. The campground is close to a gas station, grocery store and a the Tug River. I quite enjoyed the view of the mountains, gazing up at the stars and listening to owls. You can also purchase some camp basics from the main office including firewood. For any history buffs the campground is close to several Hatfield & McCoy historical markers, as well as small shops in the town of Matewan W.V. My only recommendation for tent campers who intend to eat or cook at the campsite would be to bring a small folding table. The caretaker is also very pleasant, checks in periodically and keeps an eye on things. Overall this campground is well maintained."
"Amazing service! The gentleman in the office was so kind and helpful to us. This was our first time visiting the area. They were very accommodating. Cabins are wonderful. Very clean and nice comfy beds after a long day of riding trails. Very quiet and private location. Beautiful views as well. Easy access to trailheads. Would definitely recommend!"
"This place is great! Hank Hatfield is really nice and helpful. Jaime was awesome at booking our spot. Right by the river, pet friendly and free wifi. We will definitely stay here again! Ride directly out of camp to trails and town for food, groceries, gas."
"This is a well kept campground right on the river. Staff seem very friendly and helpful. Great location for enjoying all that the area offers. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this campground for any camper over 30ft. The road in is seriously only ONE lane wide and winding ... we had to back up multiple times to allow people to pass."
