Reviews of Riverside Physical Therapy Denbigh
"I had the pleasure of working primarily with Megan and Anna, and moderately with James. I sought their help post hip surgery, after not being impressed with the first PT I was seeing. They take the time to be with you the entire appointment, which I really appreciated in the months directly after surgery. My recovery was very smooth and they made sure I understood my body and its limitations. I am back to most activities I was doing pre-surgery, completely pain free. I was challenged mentally and physically, but never felt like I was pushed too hard or too little. I sincerely appreciate the attention and care from all three PTs. I know my post surgical mobility is due to them! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this location. They don’t just send you in a corner to do exercises, they make sure you are performing them correctly and have the tools to make the most of your recovery. The front desk is also incredibly friendly, they learned my name week 1 and between that and online check-in, getting in and out was a breeze."
"Overweight doesn't mean lazy. I don't care what you think. I have been dealing with PCOS along with several other illnesses for most of my adult life. I had severe spinal stenosis (my spinal cord was nearly severed) that left me with a foot drop and nerve damage even after my 4 level fusion and corpectomy (to keep my spine from collapsing back in on itself.) I live in constant, high level pain to the point of just living with a racing heart and exhaustion from being unable to lie down for long. In spite of this, I stay very active. I go to the gym regularly. I kayak. I swim. I walk for miles, sometimes up to 10 at a time. I was jogging, until my hip injury and then knee injury. I eat no sugar at all and consume an anti-inflammatory diet. But PCOS constantly sabotages my body, and repeated injuries keep setting me back. Managing my weight has been a frustrating a tearful, even painful struggle for me. I've been mocked and bullied a LOT for my weight, until my self-esteem is almost non-existent. I was referred to PT due to SI joint dysfunction that was causing intense pain. When I first went to this clinic, the first therapist kind of showed her prejudice by asking me to "see how close I could come to touching the floor" and then acting so shocked that I could lay my hands on the floor. Yeah, overweight doesn't mean total potato, imagine that. My last visit to this PT clinic, I saw a therapist named Sean. Now, Sean apparently got frustrated with me saying I have trouble with the recumbent bike. I can do the elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, any weight machines, all day. But something about the recumbent bike was pulling on the SI joint in a way that was stabbing painfully with each rotation. This wasn't a good pain, where you know it's working, this was a "something is very wrong!" pain. Instead of listening to me, he decided that I am just not used to a little activity and that they need to get me used to a normal baseline level of activity. I can do the elliptical or treadmill for over an hour with no problem, so 5 minutes on an exercise machine is not too much activity. He was pretty insulting about my alleged "activity level" (of which he knew nothing) and told me I need to get it "up to a normal baseline." I am actually more active than many people I know and work with, so I think of a normal activity level as being low for me. I told him, "just because I'm fat doesn't mean I sit on the couch." He tried to cover by saying that's not what he meant. I just couldn't go back. I know physical therapy is not supposed to be easy; I've been through it twice before. But if you can't listen to me telling you something is VERY wrong, and you can't mask your prejudice against overweight people, maybe you don't need to be a therapist."
"I was discharged too early by a therapist who told me arrogantly that he had never had anybody return to him after he fixed them (I am paraphrasing). He also told me he was the best in the area at a certain technique he did. By the way, he was good at it but refused to listen when I said I did not feel ready. I called back weeks later to ask to come back but did not follow up as his comment made me feel uncomfortable. I went elsewhere. The management is fair there in my opinion (very bold in how this person spoke), but again my choice would be to go elsewhere with the results that I got. 3 stars because while I was there nothing went wrong but I felt more like a number. You go to PT for care usually because you are in pain and obviously have some type of a disrupting factor in your body. I cannot say that I felt extremely welcome. (I have decent insurance so that was not an issue)."
"Awesome! Cheryl Funk is an outstanding physical therapist. I don't have a month yet recieving physical therapy and I fill so much better. I definitely recommend Riverside outpatient Therapy Service."
"My husband had excellent therapy care for his shoulder replacement. I highly recommend this team for any physical therapy service."
