"I was part of the Henderson Alternative High School unit from 1985-1989. The list to get in to Community High School was very long and competitive and in time I decided to go with Henderson. I am glad I did. I had the opportunity to take multiple Advanced courses as well as AP courses that prepared me for my college experience and beyond. I believed in my abilities because the teaching staff: Ms. Caperton, Coach Callingham, Mr. Donovan, etc. taught us to believe in our talents and our minds and to push aside doubt. Our teachers also taught us to embrace a new diverse world that we would be entering. I along with many of my classmates had the opportunity to participate in sports at John Marshall high which at the time was the mighty Marshall Walker High School Cavaliers. I played tennis at Marshall Walker and we made it to the AA State Tennis Championship finals as the #4 seed. We captured 4 consecutive Central District Tennis titles from 1984-1988 and won the Central Region title in 1986.
