Reviews of OrthoVirginia Hanover Memorial
"Do your research and don't put your body through this treatment. Some doctors will misrepresent things you can find out with a good Google search. Telling you that your partial knee replacement will last 30 years, because they use good plastic, is most likely not true. The dismissing of your pain is common and not touching you can lead to misdiagnosis. They will cut you and abandon you if things don't go well. Just don't do it."
"I don't know another way to discuss this review without just going through the facts and presenting them for you to decide. I picked OrthoVirginia directly based on the reviews on here. I specifically sought out Dr. Reis and his staff. I was in pretty bad pain in my lower back that extended down to my toes. I had already been through several different meds to treat the pain but nothing helped. So I booked...and I had to wait for a completely understandable long lead time for the appointment. I filled out all of my documentation explaining the situation on their prescreening forms online a few days before my appointment. When I arrived the person at the front desk read off the chart that I was there to be seen for neck and shoulder pain. That was the first of many signs that this was a terrible mistake. So we fixed the issue at check-in. I was moved to another room where the nurse again asked what was bothering my neck and shoulder. Which I corrected again. So when Shea Monroe, MSN, APRN, FNP-C showed up almost an hour after my appointment time, it did not surprise to find her completely irreverent to my situation. She gave no time or encouragement to discuss the history of my issue. She recommended physical therapy, and asked where to send a prescription we had discussed during her brief interview. When she left the room she didn't excuse herself. She just walked out. 10 minutes later her nurse opened the door to her surprise with me sitting there. Shea had forgotten to excuse both of us. So I went to six weeks of physical therapy, and returned for my follow-up. I was swiftly brought into a waiting room in the back where I sat for 55 minutes without human contact. Moments before Shea Monroe, MSN, APRN, FNP-C opened the door I received another phone call. To her surprise I did not immediately hang up the phone, but chose to ask her to wait for me for a moment. I finished my phone call 30 seconds later and Shea quickly asked two questions: 1.) This is your follow up after 6 weeks of therapy right? 2.) Is the pain gone. When I answered no, she just interrupted and said she was going to prescribe an MRI. Before I let her leave the room I asked where she was putting in for my MRI to which she replied, 'Your neck and shoulder.' When I expressed my frustration with the entire situation Shea again excused herself without a word and came back 10 minutes later with Dr. Reis. I have neve met him at this point and charged into the room with no introduction other than an expedited walk and an offer of a handshake. I refused at the moment, and asked for introductions before we proceeded. I expressed my dissatisfaction again, reciting all of the missteps that had taken place, and when I was done, Dr. Reis' answer was essentially that he wouldn't feel comfortable with proceeding and said he would order the MRI and offer the services of other doctors instead. Instead of fixing anything I was treated as the problem because none of them could get the communications right, and treated my time, and situation as a complete waste of time. The best part of this irony is when I asked Dr. Reis what he was putting in for my MRI...he kindly told me "Well you're here for neck pain so...that." I hope they help someone else. But I'm glad to be done with them, and in particular the 2.4 minutes I had with Shea Monroe, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, and the additional 3 minutes of the receptionists at check-in."
"Great care provided, terrible billing/collections. I have been turned over to collections twice. The first time I called and confirmed with Ortho Virginia that I had a zero balance on MyChart for me and all my dependents, got another notice from the same “outstanding bill”. I called the collection company and gave them the payment dates and payment amounts and they said they would clear it up. Second collection was from a law firm this week for services provided prior to services associated with the first collection incident…billing department confirmed I have a ZERO balance."
"I will not give a Star rating for Ortho Virginia at the Hanover Memorial Hospital location they deserve a zero. My wife has 4th stage lung cancer it has spread to her bones, spine and stomach. She is in a tremendous amount of pain every day. She is currently taking Morphine, Oxy Codone and Tylenol which are not relieving her pain. We went for a Nerve Ablation procedure to relieve the pain in her back. On the day I scheduled the appointment I explained that Marilyn has cancer in various areas of her body including a tumor on her spine at L-2 and T-10. I asked if they could perform Nerve Ablation on her. The women I was speaking with to make the appointment ask me to wait on hold while she checked with the Doctors office, she came back to the phone several minutes later and said yes, they can do the nerve ablation on her. We arrived for the appointment with Andrea Kysor (Nurse Practitioner) early Ms. Kysor’s nurse assistant came in the room and said she had a couple of questions. Andrea Kysor ‘s nurse a few minutes later said we need to take an X-ray. Marilyn was taken to get an X-ray. 20 minutes or so later Andrea Kysor entered the room she introduced herself than said Doctor Gibellato doesn’t have the skills to perform a nerve ablation on a cancer patient with a tumor their spine. They knew in advance when we made the appointment that my wife had a tumor on her spine. I had explained that this was causing the pain, that the tumor pressing on her spinal nerves was the reason for the appointment I told them in advance of them taking the X-ray. I also left the message stating she had tumors on her spine when I asked if I should bring CT scans, MRI’s and the associated reports. Rather than telling us that Dr. G didn’t have the skills to perform a nerve ablation on a patient with a tumor on their spine in advance when I called or before they took Marilyn to get an X-Ray they waited until the X-Ray so they could bill Medicare and Anthem of additional money. Ortho Virginia made an appointment with me for my wife knowing she had a tumor on her spine. Please keep in mind they made this appointment after I asked if the doctor could perform a nerve ablation with a tumor on the spine. Then after repeating that she had a tumor on her spine statement while in the exam room they said they needed an X-Ray. This appears to be predatory behavior. Ortho Virginia is taking advantage of people with cancer; my wife is in excruciating pain daily she waited 10 days to get an appointment. How callous is a doctor, a practice and its staff who have advance knowledge of a tumor being on the patient’s spine to make an appointment knowing that the doctor at Ortho Virginia can’t complete the procedure that will alleviate their pain because he doesn’t have the skills. Before we left, we asked them if they knew of A doctor who could do the procedure on a cancer patient with Tumors on the spine, they said they could speak with the doctor, they were sure they knew of someone they would get a name and contact information and call us back with it. Two days later when I didn’t hear back from them, I called to speak with the Practice Manager Sharon she was useless absolutely no help. I explained what took place with being given false information as to the lack of skills of Dr. Mathew Gibellato to work with cancer patients. Sharon Practice manager told me she would look into it and call me back. She didn’t call back I had to call her. She attempted to tell me that the same nurse assistant to Andrea Kysor PA tried to call UVA hospital 2 times and sat on hold for 30 minutes. I told her that was a lie. I explained that UVA Cancer center doesn’t operate that way I explained that we had been associated with them for five years. I explained that you don’t call and wait for a doctor’s office nurse etc to answer. Rather the UVA operator takes all the calls either connects you, pages the person, or they take a message and the doctor or doctors nurse calls you back."
"Excellent service all the way around. Helping me work through my knee(s) and hip pain. They take the time to listen to what is hurting and causing your pain as well as explain the options and procedures/processes to you along the way. Highly recommended!!!"
