Reviews of VCU Medical Center Neurology
"Poor communication with non returned attempts and refusal to respond to pharmacy refill requests. Find someone else!"
"Very little availability. Don't even try to schedule an appointment if you work nights because they call you in the middle of the day when you're sleeping for work. There is no way to schedule online at all in 2023(!!!), you can only request for them to call you at THEIR convenience. If you have nocturnal seizures they will only order a 45 minute EEG while awake and after they start you on antiepileptic medication which comes out unsurprisingly normal and then order no more tests afterwards. That's like if NASA heard a signal that came from intelligent life from one direction of the universe and they built a satellite and sent it into the opposite direction and wondering why they can't find the signal anymore. If they tell you they want to see you in 3 months for a follow up then they must be completely out of their minds because they won't have ability to schedule you until 9-12 months later and then they will later cancel on you. And again because I work nights I miss all the calls in the middle of the day while I am asleep trying to reschedule the appointment. Just avoid going to VCU for neurology at all costs. I will note that I am a woman so that could also factor into the poor experience with medical professionals, so maybe if you're a dude you'll have a better experience because research has shown that women are more dismissed by medical professionals than men."
"No ability to even file a written complaint about the abhorrent and unethical services, or lack thereof, I was supposedly under the impression I'd be receiving. After making an appointment with a doctor in this practice, and showing up, I was promptly notified that the doctor was 'off the map' by her staff, and then my copay was of course taken, on my way out of the office. Now the responsibility falls to me to spend MORE time to chase down getting refunded. Please provide an avenue to file complaints against this type of treatment, and RICHMOND, please be forewarned when attempting to achieve results from this practice."
"Every interaction I've had (which have been a lot) has been so great with the VCU staff. I've dealt with their Children's Hospital mostly and they have been caring, attentive, helpful, supportive, and everything in between and I am sincerely grateful to all of the nurses, doctors, staff, and coordinators."
"If I could give zero stars, I would. I wish I would have read the other reviews regarding the office staff and difficulty of getting an appointment when I first started the process. I never write reviews, so I hope my review will help save someone time and aggravation. Who knows if the doctors are any good because it has been since September, and I still can’t get an appointment (as of March). I received a call today on a Saturday changing my March appointment (that I waited since September to get to see a specialist for my disease) to a different date and time with no flexibility that I must agree to or else wait until late August for another appointment. The rep would not even give me a choice of times when switching to a set date. I asked for help and explained how far in advance I booked this appointment and how I took off of work in addition to my husband taking off of work, along with saying I have to travel far to get there. Well, it felt like talking to a robot that had no interest or desire to serve the medical community at all. I should have seen the warning signs when I originally made the appointment back in September after navigating the referral process and the hassle of faxing all my records, etc (email was not acceptable—must be a fax). At that time, a different office staff made a comment on the phone that I was lucky enough to get an appointment (mind you it was for six months from that point). And that same rep told me if I need help before my appointment to just go to the ER (when the pandemic was surging). How ironic and caring for an office assistant to have the audacity to say how lucky I am to get an appointment for a disease that I have to manage. I am not trying to get tickets to a concert! Thank goodness I had enough medicine and the kindness of my previous neurologist. Did I mention my husband is active duty and was coming home from a deployment to make the March appointment that no longer exists? But, I am the lucky one. I am frustrated with the lack of kindness and customer service in the medical field. I wish I did not have this disease —I hate feeling like a burden, so thank you VCU Neurology for making me feel that way today."
