Reviews of Lindamood-Bell Fairfax Learning Center
"The explanation of the test scores and analysis of the answers was very helpful. My son enjoyed taking the test and wants to go back!"
"Our son has Autism and went to LMB for the summer to help with his processing and comprehension skills. He didn't really make the progress we expected for the cost and time investment (multiple hours every day), but the people there were great and instructors were very nice."
"I love love love LMB, this placed changed my daughter and our lives for better. My daughter finished first grade not being able to read. After only 2.5 months in LMB and finishing seeing stars and VV program she is reading chapter books such as "Sarah plain & tall", " Jacob's story", to name some. As a result of this tremendous gain she has become such a wonderful young lady, she is so much more confident and stands tall, as a parent I can't think of any other joy but to see your child's life changing like this. The instructors in Lind a mood bell know what they are doing and they do it wonderfully."
"Our 10-yld received virtual lessons for three weeks between May-Jun 2020. Before Lindamood-Bell reading at home was stressful as he did not accept corrections and we did not know how to help him in a different way. We were not making progress and had lots of tears and frustration. They conducted a 4-hour learning ability assessment and determined that he had difficulty imaging (i.e., he could summarize the facts of a story but could not picture it). They recommend a 5-6 week program to help him address that. The cost was not in the budget, so we agreed to proceed with 3 weeks of lessons. Here are a few pros and cons: Pros: • He received individualized 1:1 virtual instructions and thrives in this environment. From all of his instructors he liked Clarissa the best, followed by Anna, Alison and Rebecca. His learning consultant was Surpreet Sachdeva, who was fantastic. • They have a sound process and technology that works well. Cons: • They insisted on 4-hours of lessons per day, 5 times per week. Frankly, that is way too many hours per day. I was often in the same room and observed decreased focused during the last hour. I still believe that 3-hours per day would have been the right number of hours even if it required four weeks of instruction. • The had have different instructors every hour. Our son did not like the ongoing surprises. I requested an advance schedule and more consistency but did not see much of a difference. If your kid has the need to bond with their instructors, this may be an issue. • The cost is VERY high! Considering how undercompensated teachers typically are, $142.00 per hours is a lot, and it adds quickly once you multiply the number of recommended weeks and hours. Overall: Could we, as working parents, have given him the number of hour and type of assistance that he needed? No. The methodology works, so it was worth it."
"If your child is having trouble with reading, this is the place to be. They use the Orton-Gillingham curriculum, a multi-sensory approach which is what experts suggest, especially if there are issues like symbol image processing, phoneme awareness or things related to Dyslexia. I was really worried when we started that my 1st grader would HATE coming, but the teachers are wizards with children. My son couldn't wait each day to see "his peeps" (teachers) and tell them about the latest. From there, they would settle down and get to work. I was stunned at the progress my son made in 20 weeks. It was incredible. He is now not only a reader, but his backpack is heavy with books. He even sleeps with a book or two. Final word: Tiffany, the manager for Fairfax, is a gem. She knows her stuff, is great with the parents, and obviously a great manager, given the quality of the staff."
