Reviews of Reflections Eating Disorders Treatment Center at Dominion
"My daughter was admitted to Dominion due to a relapse and she had a great experience here. Her therapist Ashley Ahlers was absolutely amazing and was really invested in all the children's recovery and was available to help at anytime. Her nutritionist were also very helpful and understanding. The staff from the front desk and admitting office were absolutely amazing and helped with the insurance. Any treatment facility is only as good as you make it. No place is perfect but we had a great experience at Dominion."
"My experience was horrible. The staff treated us like walking eating disorders and the only decent person was a nurse named Lisa. She treated us with nothing but care and was the only one who we felt truly wanted us to get better and not just for the pay check. Tell your nurses to fix their attitude and actually treat their patients like decent human beings because this is just down right disgusting. I hope the best for future patients and I hope they are actually treated with respect."
"I was recently discharged from the Reflections Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) at Dominion hospital after spending 3-ish weeks as an inpatient and then another 3 weeks in their partial hospitalization program. It was an incredibly healing experience and I have nothing but positive things to say about the staff. A lot of the previous reviews mention frustrations with increasing meal plans, food that may not taste the best, or boring groups. I’m here to tell you that your experience is what you make of it. I certainly met other adult patients in there who were miserable and wanted to blame the world for their problems and only took the time to complain about the negative instead of reflect on the positive. If you are truly dedicated to your recovery, you will get what you’re looking for at Reflections. As someone who works in the health profession, I think I have a unique perspective on healthcare staff, and I can say with 100% confidence that the staff on this unit are some of the best you will ever come across. They truly care about the patients, and although they may show some tough love at times, it is only because they want to help you and see you through your recovery. Their nursing staff, therapists, and dieticians are fully dedicated to just EDU, making them very experienced and specialized in eating disorder treatment. In addition to multiple group therapies throughout the day, you will get one-on-one therapy a few times a week, one-on-one meetings with your dietician, daily meetings with your psychiatrist, and a few meetings a week with a dual-diagnosis therapist if you struggle with substance abuse. Additionally, expressive therapy occurs daily which includes either art, music, theatre, movement, or yoga. They lock the bedrooms during the day, so you are out on the unit from 7:30 am until about 9:30 pm. I actually found this helpful, though, because it forces you to be present and participate in groups instead of just retreating to your room to sleep all day. There is a computer room on the unit that we can use to check e-mail, use the internet, etc., as long as it’s not during group times. There is also a TV in the common areas (adults and adolescents have their own common area rooms), and we were able to watch TV daily after 5 pm, and all day on the weekends. Additionally, we had unit telephone access a few times a day, and got to use our cell phones 4x a week for 30 minutes each time so that we could facetime our families as the adults on the unit do not get in-person visitation. One thing that can be off-putting at first is that the unit is mixed with adults and adolescents. They do their best to separate us all during the day (we have separate group therapies and activities), but meals in the dining room are combined together. I had no issue with this, but I think it is something that people should be aware of before they go if this is something that is uncomfortable to you. Adolescents currently get in-person visitation, which some adult patients were upset about, but I understand that with COVID, visitation can be difficult to accommodate. Lastly, I want to mention the unit director, Eleanor. Eleanor is one of the most hands-on directors I’ve come across. She could be seen rounding on the unit daily, checking in with the staff but also with the patients to see if we had any needs to be met. If you have an issue, you can meet with her to discuss it and she is an excellent listener and huge support. She even bought us little foam pumpkins from Amazon so that we could paint/decorate them because we were bummed that we were missing the fall season and the ability to carve pumpkins! This place is fantastic and I 10000% recommend it to anyone seeking a true and meaningful recovery from your eating disorder. Recovery is never easy, but Reflections makes it easier because you are never alone and always supported. I felt like I had a bunch of cheerleaders on my side, and it was so cool to have so many people rooting for my success. "You hit rock bottom when you stop digging. Put down the shovel.""
"I was inpatient at this facility for two months then continued as PHP. I do not know what I would have done without this amazing experience. I made very good friends with the patients and staff, who were all very welcoming and caring. My therapist was one of the best people I have ever met and helped so much I hope if somebody who reads this gets Madison as their therapist. You can make so many good jokes with the staff members and I still remember a few of the inside jokes. The groups were mainly good but could be focused a little more on eating disorders directly, which by the time I left they had started to work on. The school coordination was good for the most part and I was able to complete most of my work. Some of the staff can be a little harsh at times but do for the best and are still good to bond with. I will miss everyone there so very much, and hope someday that I bump into them. I was sad to have to leave, meaning I would leave behind everything I had made there, but taking what I learned from this experience."
"I was discharged from Reflections recently and although I will not lie and say that it was super fun and an amazing experience, because being in treatment and recovering from an ED will never be easy or fun, it was overall positive and the patients and staff are so nice and understanding. If you are seeking help for yourself or a loved one, I could not reccomend this place more. I was supposed to go to an eating disorder residential center called clementine which get five stars, and honestly I think that this treatment center is more effective with the inpatient-PHP program and will help you recover. It won't be easy, but this is the best place to do it. The other reviews talk about Felicia, but she is no longer the director so most of the reviews don't apply anymore. If you are seeking help, you will recover here."
