Reviews of Premier Birth Center Chantilly
"I don’t know where to start. The entire team is amazing ! I had my first baby here and it exceeded my expectations. I was fortunate to have Nancy McMillen as my midwife and she was so wonderful, caring and compassionate. I was in labor for over 12 hours and Nancy helped me get through it. I couldn’t have done it without her. That day she had another mother who gave birth hours before me so she was there at the center for quite some time but she didn’t show it! I am now expecting my second baby and I will be returning. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to get Nancy again as my midwife"
"After having a very traumatic and medically unnecessary csection with my first child at a hospital I decided to search for a birthing center for my second. I live near Baltimore and MD doesn’t have any birthing centers since the last closed down during covid. (Strict restrictions from the state) Premier came highly recommended, and we decided it would be worth the 4 hour drive round trip to give us the best chance of a VBAC. I established care as early as possible into the pregnancy (we found out at 5.5 weeks) they did intake and knew ALL of my pre-existing conditions (none of which would have an impact on the pregnancy save for an iron deficiency that was being managed by another provider) They took a $500 deposit from me and then at 20 weeks they had one of their team call me (the day before my appointment) and say “sorry, but we’re stopping care because you’re high risk even though you’re not” and the reasons she gave were the pre-existing conditions that they knew about from day 1. (PCOS and that I’d previously had laparoscopic stomach surgery) So then they run my insurance and have the BALLS to send me a bill - even though my insurance covered everything except $157 out of pocket - which should be taken out of the $500 I already paid them and they should refund the rest because this was their own fault. They’ve said that the $500 was “non refundable” and that they’ll “waive” the other fees. I’m sure as heck glad I never started a payment plan with them and paid more than the initial deposit otherwise I’d be taking them to small claims court. Basically - I was abandoned halfway through my pregnancy for a stupid reason. Thank GOD I found a CNM in MD that had availability for my due date because at first it was looking like everyone was booked. Funny how I’m too “high risk” for their birthing center, but I’m perfectly fine for a home birth…. They talk a good game when you go in there but they apparently don’t care much for their patients. I will say - apparently Sharon went to bat for me. She says that she tried to talk the team into reconsidering, but they wouldn’t. She seems cool, but everyone else not so much."
"BLUF: HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I'm a doula, not a pregnant person so my review is strictly from a support person role. The equipment at the birth center is 97% similar to a hospital. The 3% difference is no operating room and no epidural. That's it. At the birth center the midwives and nurses still perform baby heart rate checks, internal exams to check progress, give IVs if needed, encourage movement, showers and baths as a form of pain management. Most importantly the laboring person is allowed time and space to let labor progress without too many medical interventions. The parking for the birth center is more than adequate. It's located in a shared business complex and there are no "bad spots" or "too far away" parking spots. The rooms are glorious. They are gigantic. The beds are double or queen sized. Each room has a shower and tub. The tubs are big enough for the laboring person and their support person to fit in. The very pretty bed covers and decorative pillows are removed once a patient arrives in labor. Then it's standard white sheets and blankets (just like a hospital). There are plenty of pillows, birth balls, and peanut balls to help position the laboring person however they need. The area around the birth center is a business complex (as previously stated) so plenty of walking area, not too much traffic around the sidewalks and parking lots. Overall this facility made being a doula and providing support easy. The midwife and nurse team provide care for the patient the whole time in the facility; they check progress periodically (just like hospitals) BUT they stay in the facility until the patient gives birth. There is no 12hr switching, they are there the entire time. Somethings that would make Labor support better for the doula or support people: 1. bring your own food - the facility has a fridge, microwave, crock pot, cups, etc 2. Flip-flops 3. Change of clothes- water from the shower goes everywhere 4. Large container to pour water on patient when they are in the tub 5. Pack like you are going on a picnic and can take a shower in a waterfall 6. If you are picky about coffee, your own creamer Bottom line: this is a fantastic place to labor, give birth, and provide support as a doula. I absolutely recommend."
"The entire team at premier is outstanding! I used them for both of my children's births. I was fortunate enough to have Nancy be a part of both. Their approach to women's health is in my opinion very good and they are always there to answer any question to make you feel comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and welcoming place to walk up their new life."
"If I had to describe my experience at Premier in a word, it would be exceptional. As a first-time mom who experienced past medical trauma, I was weary of delivering my baby in a hospital. Each staff member at Premier Chantilly was so kind, patient, encouraging, and eager to help however they could. While my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting each of the midwives during prenatal appointments, we really connected with Nancy McMillen-Torres who we saw for the majority of the last 6 weeks and serendipitously was the midwife who attended our birth. As a seasoned professional, Nancy's knowledge and calm demeanor gave me the confidence I needed to power through 16 hours of unmedicated labor at the birth center. Between Nancy, the other Premier nurses and my doulas, I felt surrounded by the most incredible tribe of wise and loving mothers. Ultimately, my birth did not go as planned, however, I am resolved and at peace knowing that Nancy, and the others did everything in their power to care for me and my baby, while supporting me to achieve the birth I desired. I feel elated and empowered when I think about the opportunity to birth another child in the future and I attribute those emotions to my incredible experience with Nancy at Premier Chantilly."
