Reviews
"Some of the staff in this department are kind and competent. However, I was literally assaulted and then berated for crying about it by a mammography tech. I believe her name is Kimberly. It was a horrible experience that keeps me awake at night and she is still working there, possibly hurting other women and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it other than to warn others. Be careful, insist on 2 people in the room, record the experience if you can, and bring a woman friend with you. This woman should not be in a position where she can hurt others and patient services at Carilion knows what happened."
"On July 26, 2023 I discovered that I had tested positive for BRCA2. My gynecologist during the appointment said that I would need to have a mastectomy done as I have 70% change of having breast cancer in the future. Through which I would have to speak with a genetic counselor to go over all of the information. She said if I didn’t hear anything back in a week to call back. I received a call today July 1, 2023 only to find out that the earliest appointment would be At the end of November! I think this is extremely unfair to go 119 days waiting for answers and a plan of action. Not to mention the route as there are different variations. This appointment is only for answers not even surgery date which I can only assume, are an even longer of a wait. I asked to be put on a cancellation list and the kind receptionist told me that those appointments for a reserved typically for those with active breast cancer. Which I get 1000%. I just think it is unfair to have to stress and worry for four months with no plan or answers. I don’t think they understand how devastating at 33 years old to hear you have an extremely high chance of getting breast cancer and a mastectomy was to be expected as my only preventative option. I have 3 kids, I have a job willing to work with me that supports me and cares. I have family who are worried and want answers just as badly as I need them. This is in my opinion and everyone I’ve talked to a unrealistic wait time for just answers."
"Went in for screening mammogram after breast cancer. I have had diagnostic ones at least twice a year since cancer treatment was complete. This office would not perform the procedure because I maybe said "lump" or "knot" when describing some lymph edema I felt 2 WEEKS AGO. The young technician got a deer in the headlights look and basically stopped listening to what I was saying. Went to supervisor (but no supervisor spoke to me... I asked!) and there ya go... no mammogram today... they were talking about having a diagnostic one... that I have had a bunch of... again... that insurance does not cover at 100% like screening ones. Saw my doc afterwards. Guess what... I just need to get the SCREENING one. Thanks so much for wasting my time and not listening to me. You will never see me there again! Do yourself a favor and go to the one on Peters Creek instead."
"Receptionist unprofessional. She demanded that I had to leave to get my cellphone to reregister. She said that she could not allow more than one person in the lobby at a time. There was no one else in the lobby patient wise but me. I told her there was a courtesy phone in the lobby and that i wanted to cancel if i had to leave. So. She finally let me use the phone. The receptionist had her badge turned over so no one could obviously get her name. While I was on the phone the mammagram tech came out named Dreama. Receptionist told Dreama that i am "rude." I told them i could hear them. Then, receptionist commented on "what a wonderful way to end the day." Sadly, receptionist made an elderly black lady sit outside on a bench to wsit and mentioned how lucky she was that it wasn't that hot outside. I noticed the continued hateful tone receptionist had and how she hesistated to look me in the face. This woman does not belong as a receptionist. She is about about 300 pounds, white with a graying bob haircut in her late 50s to early 60s. This facility has cancelled thousands of patient appointments and if you think it is alright to mistreat your patients they will not come back. I have left a message for a manager to call me back. Lewis Gale is an option. Dreama did an ok job. I am disappointed in the audacity of staff to gossip and be inappropriate. I am high risk and did consider waiting on reschedule my appointment next year but I rescheduled from May. My first May appointment was cancelled in March. I had already registered in the Spring for the first appointment. I think cancelling the 3,000 appointments you had was premature."
"I just couldn't bring myself to "love" this place because of the squashing tata behavior in which they engage. However, they provide a necessary service in the most respectful manner possible! It's easy to locate since everything outside appears to be bathed in Pepto Bismol... The front office is rounded, relaxed and inviting, though not particularly private. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. While disrobing and plopping my generous bosom onto cold plastic to be smushed isn't the most confidence boosting activity, the attendant really did a great job to empathetically put me at ease. If only it weren't so cold!!!"
