"I've been a patient at the Sports Medicine department and Runner's Clinic for a little more than a year now, with two different problems, and I just never tire of how exceptional my care is, every time. Doctors actually see the MyChart messages I send, and I'm responded to quickly. They gracefully work around my insane competition schedule, and take my pain seriously - something that, as a female athlete, is not universally true. Dr. Wilder is an exceptional professional, and I'm so grateful that he leads the team of extraordinary experts keeping me doing the sports I love."
"I had an appointment with Dr. Brockmeier last month where I had discussed with him that I was experiencing complications - pain as well as patellar maltracking - after I had a knee surgery done elsewhere in 2019(by a surgeon he knows, the surgeon referred me to Dr. Brockmeier after being made aware of the fact that he may have made a surgical error). At the start of the appointment my concerns were acknowledged, Dr. Brockmeier was kind, he also looked over an MRI of the surgery site finding two things that were missed by other specialists I had seen before him about the symptoms I had. I'm grateful that he was thorough, found the issues then showed them to me on the MRI. He told me that one of the issues was an uneven trochlear groove which could be fixed surgically but that he didn't specialize in the surgery, he explained that he would need to consult with Dr. Dudich who had experience performing the operation I would need. He included that Dr. Dudich is ranked highly among other surgeons. Dr. Dudich came into the examination room with Dr. Brockmeier & his PA, manipulated my patella without asking me to stand so that he could take note of the difference, then told me I didn't need the surgery. I asked him if he looked at the MRI that showed I would need a surgical correction & he said, "I saw the MRI, the trochlear groove is straight. I'm not going to do the surgery. You have three doctors here telling you that you don't need the surgery", even though Dr. Brockmeier had seen & said otherwise & Dr. Brockmeier's PA who was one of the three "doctors" in the room said nothing. The amount of time between Dr. Brockmeier walking out & coming back with Dr. Dudich would not have been enough time to examine the MRI thoroughly. At that point I felt humiliated & was in tears. The PA left the room & shortly after him Dr. Dudich left the room, then Dr. Brockmeier seemed to backpedal regarding what he saw on the MRI, he then recommended physical therapy & ordered an MRI on my right knee which subluxes. He then told me, "I'm sorry but we can't fix your hypermobility." My hypermobility wasn't a concern I came in with, a structural issue as well as pain was why I made an appointment. I have never been treated this way in any medical setting, I was horrified & I do not recommend these doctors at UVA Sports Medicine."
"Dr Gwathmey is the best. Hip injuries aren’t nearly as heard of as things like shoulders and knees. He helped me figure out why I was in pain and repaired my hip great. Very friendly staff easy to talk to and they really listen to you and make you feel heard."
"I have had knee trouble for years. I had been to two doctors previous to Dr. Carson. I was told by the other doctors, "Just don't do the things that make it hurt." A person wants to know why they are hurting and get it treated if necessary. I found Dr. Carson and within five minutes he knew what the problem was and how to correct it. He is a God send to me and I would recommend him to anyone."
"My experience was awful. Dr. Mark Miller is one of the most egotistical person I have ever met. He replaced my acl an cleaned my meniscus up. Well after over an year of constant pain I was told he couldn't do anything else for me. So now I'm seeing another orthopaedic Dr and pain management. I recommend that you do not see this dr. Even his staff is rude."
