Reviews of Allergy and Asthma Specialists of Greater Washington
"I was very hesitant to come here after reading the reviews, but I am happy to say my experience was completely different. The staff is great and it was very easy to get scheduled. My only complaint was that sometimes when I received calls ( from someone that doesn't work at this location ) I get incorrect information, such as them telling me to stop medications prior to testing that were prescribed knowing I had to come off antihistamines. I knew it sounded wrong and asked them for clarification and they did check and got back to me, but had I not pressed the issue I could have come off meds unnecessarily. Now that I am setup and have my serum it isn't an issue since I do any scheduling with the staff at the Front Royal. If you are on the fence and looking for a local allergy clinic it is worth trying."
"Of all the doctors that I have seen to treat idiopathic urticaria (hives) Dr Joseph made the biggest impact. She is caring, knowledgeable and very thorough. This condition as well as my allergy and asthma are well controlled thanks to Dr Joseph. As a patient of 5 years, I highly recommend!"
"The Indian wannabe Dr here is absolutely horrible. (Front Royal location) We wanted to start allergy drops and she really tried to push the shots instead. I guess they get a good kick back from big pharma for that. They never answer the phone or return calls. We went for an appointment and she said she would let us know if she can do drops instead of shots. Still have not heard back. Waste of time!"
"We made an appointment with the Front Royal branch. Our first impression wasn't strong; the staff there is really nice and the office is clean but the area is small so they perform some of their shots in the waiting room. On our initial visit we had to sit there for fifteen minutes watching some poor 10 year old kid getting a bunch of shots in his back and arm, and his mom trying to alternately calm, threaten, or bribe him into quiet. Meanwhile the nurse administering the shot didn't seem to know how to deal with frightened kids, because she kept saying scary stuff in a concerned voice, like "if you can't sit still this could hurt more". I'm old school so this didn't make me uncomfortable, but I could tell the boy's poor mother was. Our consult with the doctor was fine; she was very businesslike in asking questions. We were there to determine our teen's allergies to food and outdoor allergens. We were told not to take antihistamines for a week prior to the actual tests, which was fine, but they also told us our kid would need to go off of a prescription mental health/sleep aid medication for a few days too. Our regular doctor told us not to, and some further research indicated that you do not, in fact, *have* to go off this med for allergy tests to work; it only causes a few complications. This was verified when we arrived for the test, because they simply performed a pre-test to see how the skin would react and it ended up fine. So, good thing we didn't follow their advice on the sleep med. The test appointment itself took about 2 hours, between the pre-test and the several other tests. We did identify some outdoor allergies and confirmed no pet allergies, but they didn't even test for food allergies, assuming they were more like intolerances that we could test for ourselves with trial and error (which we were already doing). Overall I'd say it's a pretty bare bones operation: you get allergy tested by professionals and the tests are reliable. Communication wasn't great and we felt more like we were being processed than engaged with or considered. We got our results, but that's about it. Won't be coming back for regular shots. ."
"It's extremely difficult to work with them. The doctor there was nice and I have no problem with her, but I've been waiting since early May to start my allergy shot program."
