"I had the BEST Labor and Delivery experience at Sentara Leigh. I was scheduled for an induction at 40 weeks 5 days. From checking in with the front desk staff to the check out process, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I begin my induction process with the overnight RN Quinessa (spelling?). She was nothing short of amazing. She checked on me and my husband constantly and made sure I was comfortable. She always let me know what she was doing and the next steps of my labor process. She was my nurse for two nights and was there for the delivery of our baby girl. I am so grateful for her level of care during the most vulnerable time of my life. I then moved to my recovery suite where I met my RN Kisha. When I say sweet as pie! She is so sweet. She helped me so much. From tips and tricks for me as a first time mom, to making sure my pain management meds came on time like clockwork. She constantly checked on me and my husband to see if we needed anything. She also gave my baby girl her first bath and showed me how to bathe her. She was my RN for the two days I stayed after delivery. I felt like she was family in that short amount of time just because of how warm and friendly she is. I asked her if I could give her a hug when we said goodbye at my car. I had the best experience and it was completely due to all the medical staff at Sentara Leigh. Everyone seemed as if they truly loved their jobs and the level of care reflects that."
"Sentara Leigh sucks and the patient advocacy is terrible. I would give zero stars but unfortunately I can’t. My wrist is still hurting from my Iv. I had changed rooms which had blood all on the toilet in mom and baby. Delivery was ok. I told the nurse I felt the baby coming and was ignored basically. I was also given mixed information during my visit. I won’t be delivering at this hospital again… On to when I sent my mother to the emergency room. My mom had to take medication that makes her drowsy. The nurse was going to make her walk out of the hospital until we mentioned the obvious."
"I had to go in for a severe foot infection. The doctors, nurses and staff were A+ (except for pathology). I had to stay for a week and they did everything to make me happy and comfortable. If you have a choice, this is the best hospital in Hampton Roads!"
"Not very welcoming. I came to be with my daughter while having her second c-section. My husband stayed with our two year old granddaughter. My daughter's husband is currently deployed with the US Navy. The interior is very nice. The employees have a huge lack of communication. My daughter was sent to the ICU for complications. She had no dietary restrictions, ordered many meals and never received any after twenty-six hours. She finally received food after I complained. The staff lost our newborn grandson's chart! After mom was brought back to the Mommy/Baby wing, I was finally able to take a break after twenty-nine hours. I found a cute cozy area near the maternity entrance. The two chairs were in a cozy nook to relax and go through some work emails. I was told I had to leave, I was too close to the entrance where privacy was important. It was a HIPPA violation. HUGE CONCERN. Why would personal patient's information be discussed in the open at the entrance, in the first place? Have staff not been trained appropriately? Who would place such cozy inviting chairs at an entrance, in the first place? Why not place a sign saying, staff or employees only? I have been in customer service for over twenty five years. I clearly see a huge lack of communication amongst staff. Nothing makes family more uncomfortable than not knowing really what's going on but being made to feel very uncomfortable at the same time. I realize my daughter's case is not normal but maybe the staff should be trained for special circumstances. As a parent, I was terrified of my daughter's complications. Yet, not once at ease carrying for my few hour old grandson. I finally ate myself over twenty four hours later. I'm extremely glad my daughter and grandson are well now and cannot wait to leave this place."
"I had to visit this hospital to get labs. I was absolutely enthralled when I walked inside and saw the modern interior of the front lobby. I was greeted with a smile and helped by the polite front desk staff. I was helped by Billy and he told me exactly where I needed to go for registration. When I went to the registration desk I was held by another Sentara employee who was nice and also funny. The lab tech who did my labs was also very personable and I was in an out quickly. Overall, it was a pain free (minus the stick) experience. I appreciate the promptness and effectiveness of the staff as I am currently on my honeymoon and didn’t want to spend more time than needed at a hospital!"
