"My wife and I welcomed our child into the world at the Birthing Center and spent 3 days on the Mother Child floor. Care was outstanding all around and they were very kind and patient with us."
"Visited the ER on 1/21/2024...my husband was brought by ambulance..the EMT had me go directly to RMH..when I arrived at the Emergency Dept..I asked the employee who was stuffing her face with a big fat burger if my husband had arrived..first problem..then awaited my husband's arrival only to have him brought into the waiting area after receiving an EKG..I was surprised...then he received bloodwork and an IV which I pushed him back for in wheelchair and then pushed him back out to waiting room with I V...then couldn't help but notice all the other patients with IV's and machines hooked up in waiting room..needless to say after 5 hours...which wasn't long..because a gentleman laying on chairs covered in blankets had been there for 9 hours..sooooo ...we were discharged...when we exited through front exit of building..I couldn't help but notice..that we had literally been in what resembled a third world country compared to the rest of the hospital...something seems wrong with the protocol and how patients. WHO are human are cared for...the nurse who cared for my husband..whilst in the WAITING ROOM....was wonderful...but something still feels off."
"First time i visited was 5 days ago and the staff in the emergency wing was amazing. Now I am back in the North wing and I have no complaints. The staff from the parking attendees, front desk check in and surgeons were amazing. Bring snacks if you have to wait for hours because the vending machine prices are high, but they do have a cafeteria that had a good variety of food."
"More akin to a prison infirmary than a real hospital, which is fitting as you are likely to see more uniformed police and security oozing through the halls then doctors actually doing their job. The one consistency this madhouse has demonstrated over the past decade is staff that consider it their solemn duty to treat patients as poorly as possible. Half the doctors & nurses are hateful, ego-driven idiots with an overblown god-complex, and the other half really don't care if you live or die. On our most recent visit, we pulled in to the parking lot to be greeted by someone "directing traffic". My wife asked if we could use the empty handicapped spot right behind him. He said only if we had a handicapped placard. I replied by informing him that I am a disabled veteran, and to simply look at the licence plate to see the handicapped icon. He said don't be rude to him or he would call security. Yup, this is the typical Carilion employee! We spent then next hour in the waiting room, which is typical given the time and day. When we finally made it to the examination room, the "lead doctor", arrogant and rude of course, misdiagnosed our two year old with Impetigo (bacterial), but he actually had Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease (viral). The doctor left, and we waited for our prescription and discharge. For almost three hours. With a screaming, exhausted, hungry, confused baby boy. I eventually walked the halls and pulled a nurse aside and asked her what the hell were they waiting for. A few minutes later another nurse appeared to take his vitals and hand us the release notes. As I said before, I am a disabled veteran and have gotten used to horrible mistreatment at the hands of the Department of Veterans Affairs, but Carlion is a close second when it comes to entrenched incompetence and inconsideration. We have had little to no problems with the local small critical care clinics, nor with Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem. Carilion however is dysfunctional cesspit that should be avoided. Consider yourself warned."
"My daughter sat in the waiting room for 3 hours with this heart rate. She was then told her blood work was fine and there was nothing else they could do. I will NEVER take a family member there again. AEFUL treatment, compassion and care!!"
