"Room was........meh, linen was clean, floor is nasty, pretty grungy overall. Performed my bed bug inspection, didn't find any. But I did find multiple cockroaches in the room, picture included below. The room was 512 2nd room was similar to the first but no(see edit) cockroaches! Floor was even worse, and room smelled awful. The room was 432 Wouldn't recommend this hotel if 2/2 rooms were unpleasant. Edit February 1st 2024: Updated the review to include that I found an additional 5 roaches in my NEW ROOM on the 4th floor on my final night, even after carefully bagging my garbage to ensure I didn't provide a tempting target. Nope, I found 3 while I was in the shower, this is absolutely disgusting and if it weren't for business I would be demanding my companies money back"
"Attended a convention here. The staff are great and they did a much better job this year of accommodating food needs for the convention attendees. The rooms are older and some are moldy. Others are perfectly fine. It's an older hotel and is slowly being updated as things break so some parts are more modern than others. Convention rooms are nice and the layout of the place is good."
"AWFUL SERVICE! Never again! I am an Active Duty PCSing to Norfolk. My family and I drove EIGHT HOURS. We left home at a specific time thinking the check in was 3 PM just like any other hotel. Halfway through the travel, my wife noticed that they don’t check in until 4 PM. So we called them and asked if we could check in an hour early? The lady asked how far away I was. I said currently 4 hours away and we should be there around 2:45 and 3 PM. She said okay to call back again when I’m 30 minutes away and she will leave a note on my reservation so when I called back, they’ll know. At 30 min away, I called back and a guy answered this time. He said there’s no note on my reservation and he needs to check if the room was ready. He put me on hold for the entire 30 minutes till I got there myself. I went to the front desk, a lady with a manager name tag said “an early check in is ONLY FOR MEMBERS”. When I explained that I called ahead and we just drove 8 hours, she said “the room is not ready anyway”. I went back to my car, we were all tired, especially my 9 months pregnant wife who just wanted to take a shower and lay down. We took a nap in the car and went back to check in at 4. I tried to cancel the reservation while in the car, but it was a non refundable one. The check out is 11 am. So from 11 am to 3 pm, the room was not ready, and magically it was ready from 3 pm to 4 pm. On top of that, our stay was not pleasant at all. NEVER AGAIN!"
"This hotel needs some serious upgrades. When I checked in at 10 p.m., someone was in my room with the doors lock. I asked my friend to hang tight as I went back downstairs. My friend called me before I got down and said it was a homeless person. The check-in person didn't even look surprised. I told her I wanted a new room. If it wasn't late and had other choices, I would've left. I was their own business. The rooms need serious updates. The doors on some of these rooms look like they were broken into. The carpet was nasty and dirty in the rooms and hallways. I had my shoes on the entire stay. The floors had a smell and damp. The employees for the banquet worn regularly clothes and look not professional at all. The food was great, I must say, compared to the other issues. The location is great, and the entryway was the only thing upgraded. When I walked in, I was impressed, but that didn't last long seeing the rest of the property. This is the first time I ever left a bad review."
"This Holiday Inn is conveniently located near the highway. The updated lobby is modern; however, the elevators are raggedy. Most guests felt safer taking the stairs. I don't understand why some hotels don't make updating elevators a priority. The guests' safety is more important than a chic lobby. I was fortunate to get one of the properly renovated rooms. The bed was comfy, and the bathroom was fabulous. Unfortunately, most of the people in my group had issues with their rooms and filed complaints. Some of the staff were friendly but a couple of them, not so much. The bar closed at 8 p.m. on a Saturday night. Someone needs to make it make sense. Overall, it was okay. It would not be my first choice when I visit VA Beach again, but if I couldn't book at a Hilton, Marriott, or Hyatt, then I would book with this hotel."
