"Excellent school. 2-4 student/teacher ratios for language fundamentals. Small classes for other subjects. Dedicated & well trained administration & staff. State of the art teaching methods for learning issues. Our son had struggled in a traditional school system. The day to day stress affected all of us. TNCS reignited his interest in learning & raised his self confidence. TNCS has changed our lives for the better. TNCS is a rare asset & we are really lucky to have it in Richmond, VA."
"Our son will be starting his 3rd year at The New Community School this fall, and it has been such a positive experience for both him and our family. Prior to TNCS, he struggled in school with large classroom sizes and teachers who didn’t teach in a way that helped him learn. We were spending excessive amounts of time helping him complete homework and prepare for tests. He had to stay after school frequently to make up work and receive assistance from tutors. However, he kept getting poor grades and often had to retake tests. His confidence suffered and he hated school. TNCS’ customized educational approach has helped our son improve his weakest areas, and he has gained confidence in his academic abilities. He is finally learning in a way that works for him. He completes his schoolwork on his own, without us nagging him to do so—it has been truly rewarding seeing his confidence grow. He still has has a way to go, but we feel confident that he is in the right place. The teachers and staff are so warm and welcoming, and it is obvious that they truly care about the students."
"I attended The New Community School in the early '90's and my daughter is a current student. Every student receives a top notch education. With a customized educational approach, each student is given the tools to strengthen their skills in order to excel. I felt extremely qualified for college and was very successful. I would recommend TNCS to any student that struggles with dyslexia or reading based learning difference."
"My daughter is in her 4th year at TNCS and it has been a life changing experience for her and our whole family. They have the most amazing teachers and staff and every time I think about how fortunate we are that there are schools that can change lives like TNCS I literally get tears in my eyes. She has dyslexia and when we came to TNCS she hated school because she didn't feel smart, her teachers did not understand her learning differences and she didn't feel like she was on the same academic level as her peers and TNCS has been a god send! She is now a true leader at TNCS, loves school and has so much self confidence and that is truly because of the TNCS family. I could go on and on but bottom line is WE LOVE TNCS! Thank you for all you do to encourage, teach and show our children how amazing each and every one of them are!"
"I met with the head of admission. Had a very nice tour. We met the head of the school as well. They gave us the impression that they were diverse and welcoming. Not so. They called us the next day and said my son did not meet their "criteria". This made this decision without even meeting him or providing him the opportunity to take their admission test. I smell a rat. Elitist school pretending to be something they are not. The photos that are hanging all over the interior of the school display no diversity. Shame on them."
