Reviews of Animal Medical Center of Frederick County
"If I could give this place a 0 star I would. I've used this vet as a back up only when I've absolutely been forced to. There's a reason I drive 2 hours to Laytonsville Veterinary in Laytonsville MD which provides the ABSOLTUTE BEST care to my dogs. This place is horrible. I've had them call me and cancel appointments more than once and when I challenged the receptionist the last time (during the snow); they wanted to push me from 8:30AM to 1:30PM to accommodate THEIR schedule since they were opening at 10:00AM that morning instead of 8:00AM. So If I am the second appointment that day; shouldn't my appointment be pushed to 10:30AM instead of 1:30PM? Nope, the receptionist was unwilling to assist with this and instead; tells management at the facility that I was "verbal" with her; they then send me a letter stating I can no longer have my animals seen there. Just because you hire a lazy person who doesn't want to push all other clients back. I am a nurse and I work night shift so getting to bed and getting enough sleep for my next shift is extremely important. Instead of calling and seeing if there is something else that can be worked out; this receptionist acted like a robot that can't reason with someone; she'd rather inconvenience someone who has been up all night working and force them to stay awake even longer to accommodate THEIR decision to open THEIR business late. I never received a call from the manager, no one ever called to discuss the situation with me. Instead they send a really ugly letter to me without explanation of what was exactly said in the conversation to refuse future service to my dogs. Which is really no big deal because the service there is less than satisfactory; I literally have left there and the next day driven 2 hours to MD because I knew they were missing something. Additionally; my dogs have never received excellent care at this facility; thus why I drive to Laytonsville Veterinary in Laytonsville MD for their care. I should have known the first time they saw my dog and the doctor is trying to examine my dogs ear and she says "this dog has no ear canal" and I looked at her and said "Have you never seen an ear canal resection?" I'm serious; I had to show her where the dog's ear canal was. I take really good care of my dogs and do everything possible to keep them healthy; I spare no expense when it comes to them. I've got news for you; I'd rather pay for the care at Valley Veterinary Emergency Vet next to Costco as to deal with your unwillingness to even call your client to discuss the situation before sending out a letter. Trust me, I will get the news out to all my neighbors and peers (many of them live in Stephens City) NOT to use your services. Really, Really poor customer service and good riddance of the inferior care received by your poorly trained staff."
"Had to take my dog here to have a rhinoscopy. Dr Welch and Dr Howard were so great. They took time before and after surgery to explain everything. The techs and secretarys were friendly and very helpful. 10/10"
"10/10 recommend! Prior to coming here, my lab and I had a terrible experience at another vet office. This left my lab, Charlie, being reactive at the vet’s office (mostly barking but also timid and afraid) so it was time for a change. I had read good reviews and heard Dr. McCarthy was great with potentially difficult dogs so I contacted the office for an appointment. EVERYONE was so amazing from the moment I contacted them to schedule an appointment, to the assistants helping during the appointment (Emily and another tech whose name I didn’t catch), to Dr. McCarthy herself, and even the process of checking out with the front desk ladies. They honestly take the time to get to know your dog, build a relationship with him to make him comfortable, and do a phenomenal job from beginning to end. They are so understanding, caring, and non-judgmental about whatever may be going on with your dog. Wish we would have found them sooner and so looking forward to continuing Charlie’s care here!"
"This place is absolutely different from what a regular veterinary clinic is. It is an extremely clean place and the staff is absolutely friendly and empathetic, they really care about your pet. I would have liked to continue using their services with my pet, unfortunately my dog passed away. Dr. Howard was very clear about my dog's situation and seemed very compassionate at all times. I had to put my dog to rest and from beginning to end in this place they were the best. They took care of the entire procedure in an extremely empathetic way, understanding the pain of the entire family, assigned an appropriate room and explained the procedure step by step. They then took care of the cremation process from start to finish and finally I received a pleasant surprise at my home with a condolence card signed by the staff. They have been too amazing, I totally recommend them forever. The cost of the services is a little high but I swear that if you go there you will not regret it. Thanks to the entire team from Allegra!!"
"My daughter's dog decided he liked toddler socks and green black walnuts. Both bad for the digestive tract and intestines, causing a blockage. I took him to this animal vet and by x-rays they were able to give us a great plan that was not rushing into surgery. The next day the dog went back to the vet and was clear. Brownie points for me so I'm taking my own dog to them tomorrow for a growth."
