"This has been such a great group! I've been with this class since summer of 2021. Sensei Toma is a great instructor, he has keen eye to detail in everything we do, he is exceptional at guiding and correcting stances and moves, he really brings out the inner warrior in me! If you're looking for an intense class that keeps you pushing your boundaries, then welcome home."
"Sensei Toma has been an amazing instructor throughout all of my years of training with him. He is incredibly patient, motivated and caring person with students of various levels. No matter how new or experienced you are, he will present a new challenge for you to concur. Sensei has been training Kyokushin karate from an early age and throughout his life. For him, this is the way of living like a true warrior. I highly recommend this dojo for students of all ages and experience levels. Osu!"
"A great place to learn Karate! Sensei Toma is an excellent mentor. I join his classes with previous training in Kyokushin, but I found Sensei Toma's knowledge of this style and his teaching method much better than all my previous teachers, with a huge difference! I really recommend his classes."
"Sensei Nick is one of the most talented karate fighters I have trained with in many years of my karate experience! And he is a great teacher with a lot of knowledge and experience!"
"I found Capital Kyokushin-kan about a year ago. I had just moved to DC and didn't know a lot of people in town. While I was simply looking for a dojo where I could get fit again, what I found here was much more than that - I found a warm, welcoming, tightknit community of Karatekas (karate practitioners) who are passionate about pushing each other to be better and stronger. All this wouldn't be possible without Sensei Nick Toma, who is one of the best karate teachers I've encountered in my 16+ years of martial arts practice. I highly recommend this Dojo for both beginners and people who are already familiar with full contact (Kyokushin-style) Karate. Logistical note: Classes are usually 5:30pm to 8pm on Monday/Friday and 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday. Parking is usually available in the community center lot, but sometimes you need to find street parking (it's always been free for me). The class takes place in the smaller gym (the first door to the right as you enter the community center). You don't need any special equipment if you're just trying out the class but eventually you'll need a gi and maybe shin pads and gloves if you're interested in sparring. Also, it's better to come 10-15 minutes early to start stretching and prep for class, especially if it's your first class."
