Visitors can enjoy the annual holiday event at Sandusky, featuring live holiday music, refreshments, and a chance for kids to make and take home a tree ornament. Santa Claus will also be making an appearance. The event is free, with tours of the house available at regular prices.
The gift shop at Sandusky offers unique gifts for history lovers, and the institution recently received a donation of a circa 1860 washstand originally from Sandusky. Tours of the house and museum are available by appointment, and visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the grounds and outdoor markers.
Sandusky served as Union Headquarters during the Battle of Lynchburg and has a rich history spanning over 200 years. The house reflects its appearance from 1850-1870, showcasing the Federal era architecture. Owned and operated by the University of Lynchburg, Historic Sandusky provides experiential learning opportunities for students, faculty, and staff, while also welcoming the public to explore its history.
