Reviews of Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute
"Our experience here has been a nightmare, largely due to the incompetence of Dr. Goble (who we've only met twice and refuses to communicate with patients) and the nurse practitioners (random person every time), coupled with their abysmal patient communication and medical care. The fact that the receptionists operate at almost no brain function doesn't help. It really makes you wonder why these people choose to work in Oncology. Communication with this team is virtually non-existent. Questions were met with indifference or vague responses, leaving us in a constant state of confusion and anxiety. The lack of coordination in treatment plans only adds to the chaos. This has resulted in several unnecessary ER visits during regular office hours, that could have been avoided if someone picked up the phone. The medical care received was nothing short of tragic. Pain, discomfort, or other side effects are met with callous disregard, making one feel like an inconvenience rather than a patient in need. In short, Sarah Cannon is a horrifying blend of incompetence and neglect. I strongly advise anyone facing cancer to seek care elsewhere, as your life is too precious to be entrusted to this deplorable practice. Update: I've been waiting for both the "patient advocate" and the "patient relations" director for 2 weeks, so whomever is writing these responses: you call them."
"This place is a godsend! It’s warm and inviting but the social worker Robin, she is exceptional. She has the ability to disarm fear and worry and keep you focused in the next step. Without her I am not sure how I would have come thru my diagnosis. There are no words and not enough stars ❤️"
"I am a breast cancer patient. During my chemo treatment I got canceled 3 times because of my blood work was not great. I am disappointed today because I already got my steroid and Benadryl and called my husband to leave it means I will get chemo. After took Benadryl the nurse said waiting the answer for doctor since my liver is high. They should wait until everything is clear about my blood work before starting any procedure. On the way home I got message from cvs about prescription that I did not know what is for because when I left the nurse did not say any about prescription. I called and they said will call me back about it. Then call came and explained. They should call the patient when prescribed any medicine to avoid any confusion. And also they should study about my condition that has been canceled 3 times lately may be they need to reduce the doses or tell me what should I do to get better. Also they said 24 hrs nurse if having any problems. If holiday answering machine and got called the next day. I am not sure if I am at right place to cure my cancer. I am trying hard to deal with chemo that is not easy."
"My father was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He found a mass under his left arm and I truly don't believe he told us as soon as he found it. However, he works at Johnston Willis and wanted to travel back and forth to Sara cannon cancer hospital inside of Johnston Willis. My dad was in very bad shape. Couldn't walk or talk or eat and Dr. Voelzki and his team Bonnie the nurse practitioner, Katherine the Rn, and Kenna the MA. Were amazing. They treat us like family. They call on holidays to check in. They return calls the same hour. I love them because of how they love my dad. I look forward to the day his cancer is gone and we can celebrate."
"As someone who works in a hospital setting, I was heavily appalled at how my family was treated upon the death of a family member. He was diagnosed with a quick and progressive cancer, that we knew could not be cured, and we knew he was going to pass. However, upon the decision of making him hospice, there should have been more compassion for the family. He passed within 24 hours of being placed on hospice, and once we were all able to make it to the facility (there were 5 family member total), half was allowed which we were grateful for and the other 2 where told by the screening nurse that she didn’t care if he was dead, and that they could not come to see him. Then, the nurse on staff that morning, while we quietly waited for the other two members to arrive (who we did not realize where receiving pushback from the screening nurse)- persistently reminded the deceased patients wife and us that we needed to leave. Seriously, how dare you? That is the last time she got to see her husband alive and everyone processes grief differently. I have never seen so much disrespect and lack of compassion amongst cancer staff. I understand that there are visitation rules, however I am also aware that there are exceptions made for extenuating circumstances, such as death. I understand that everyone is burned out and there were patients in the emergency room who needed that bed, but compassion goes a long way. Hospice and cancer nurses are KNOWN to be amongst the most compassionate, however that is NOT what we witnessed at this facility during his time of death. Heavily disappointed."
