Reviews of Melody Supreme | Vinyl Records
"If you find the world insufferably full of nincompoops with no taste or intelligence, you may find yourself on common ground with the proprietor of this shop. I can recommend Melody Supreme for the storybook spectacle of a man whose shop seems to exist primarily as a place for him to dramatize his antipathy towards the inexorable forward thrust of modernity, its various vapid trends and unsophisticated peoples. It certainly does not exist to make money, or at least that is far down the list of priorities, because if you are in the nincompoop group he’d rather you exit stage left than give him money. I suspect there is in fact a small group of people who will appreciate this in a record shop owner, and another smallish group of masochists who absolutely should go just for the free whipping, but I can’t recommend it to anyone else. --- Update in response to the owner reply: I agree we should let people be people, and I honor your choice to run your business as you like. But many collectors and enthusiasts like me who find great joy in vinyl will not enjoy their interactions with you, which detracts from that joy, and I think they should be prepared for that. As I mentioned at the end of my review, however, and as other reviews attest, not everyone feels that way. So I'm sure you agree that letting people be people extends to all the reviewers here as well."
"This place is great! I’ve been shopping here for over a year and never leave empty handed. Not a big shop but set up well. I’ve been able to find things here that I haven’t found anywhere else and his prices are always good. I saw some negative reviews regarding the owner and I don’t really understand. He has been good to me. We even exchanged phone numbers. Think he may be misunderstood by some folks.. All of the record shops in Charlottesville have been good to me. I am thankful and appreciative of them all."
"I stopped by yesterday with my two sons. The gentleman working was very helpful, especially to my 14 year old who is just getting into the world of vinyl. We found some records here that we haven’t been able to find anywhere else. We will definitely be back!"
"I debated leaving a review about this place, but since I’ve read through the reviews and how SO many others agree on how rude and unprofessional the owner is, well I can’t help but not to leave a review. On Saturday my husband and I had brunch at a new restaurant close by. We were headed to another vinyl shop but they were closed. The amazing waitress mentioned going to this shop and how much she loves shopping there. My husband and I were very excited to go check it out for a specific record. We just purchased a new fairly expensive player and wanted to be able to shop local for our first vinyl and not buy our first record from a “big box”. My husband had an empty coffee cup in his hand as we walked around the shop. The owner very rudely told him to sit the cup on the table while looking around. While my husband complied, I asked the owner if he “had a trash for us to toss the cup since it was empty”? Very rudely he grabbed it out of my hand and tossed it in the trash. After looking around and deciding on 2 albums to purchase, I asked if he had an other albums of Vince Guraraldi other than the one he had. He asked “what was I looking for” and I said anything other than the one he had. He again asked what I was looking for as if I didn’t understand the question. I did, and I answered his question. “Anything other than the one you have”. Simple answer for such a sarcastic way of asking the question 3 times. At that point I was done, and decided I’ll never spend a dime with this arrogant owner. My husband had to remind me that he was a jerk the last time we had visited this shop with an out of town friend and her son, and that our friend didn’t purchase that day either because of the arrogance from this guy. I’m very curious of how much money this guy has lost due to his piss poor attitude and demeanor towards his guests?"
"I loved this place! The selection was wonderful and the pricing was great too. The store owner was very sweet. I picked up a Chet Baker album and we had a very nice chat about jazz music. :) I ended up going with another vinyl, but I came back about 15 minutes later back to buy the Chet Baker album, which I'm very glad I did!"
