Reviews of Virginia Beach Schools Administration
"My question is that while you're giving your workers that $1000 bonus on December 15, but not the subs that has worked for you when you needed them. I worked for your system for 24 years as a contracted worker, I then retired from the system and became a long-term permanent subs for the last ten years, and you leave ppl like us out when we've been there when you call us, and now you wonder why no subs will answer your calls."
"Reading the reviews where parents don't feel like the school cares is disheartening. An apathetic administration means low emotional intelligence and it wouldn't surprise me if this toxic trait was rampant. Leadership demonstrates organization culture- it instructs others on how to behave, what's appropriate and what isn't. The type of negligence I read about a parent losing a child and being told she was lucky is horrendous. Hopefully the school board addresses this issue or cleans up the problem people. This is disgusting behavior for a school administration."
"On 11/29, my daughter’s aftercare program called me to tell me that my daughter’s elementary school refused to release her because someone “texted” in a change. This was not authorized by me. They called because something seemed suspicious. I tried to get ahold of the school and no one answered. I called the VBPS administration and let them know what was going on and was met with an apathetic response. Finally, 25 minutes later, my daughter’s school called. They have since told FOUR different stories as to what happened and made an obvious attempt at covering it up. There is an hour of time where my daughter is unaccounted for an the school refuses to allow me access to the tapes. I reached out to the school board, which as of today (12/8) has refused to respond to my emails and I emailed every single one of them. Dr. Spence refused to meet with me or call me. Dr. Linda Hayes called me from a blocked number and told me I was “lucky” that nothing happened to my daughter. Their response, or lack of, has been infuriating. Their “investigation” of themselves of course found that they did nothing wrong. They are the ones that are lucky nothing happened to my daughter due to their negligence while they were responsible for her care. Today, 12/8, I got an email stating my daughter was absent despite me dropping her off before the start of school. I called the school who had to CHECK to confirm my daughter was actually there. I asked to speak to the principal, Kathleen Scarborough, who hung up on me during our call when I blasted her for this twice in one week not knowing where my child is. The lack of accountability needs to stop now. This is not a one-off experience and any parents reading this, I implore you to reach out to me if this has also been your experience as well. If this kind of negligence is acceptable to VBPS, what else is going on since parents are no longer allowed in the schools?"
"From a student's point of view, I don't like how they're running Virginia Beach schools."
