"Have been with essex for well over a decade and have never had any issues until today. Every month, ONCE a month my husband and I deposit a large sum check for our pay. Ive been to this particular branch previously & never had an issue. Not sure if the 2 ladies are new or what... but today they wanted to say they would have to put a hold on the check even tho its significantly less than we normally bring in. Usually they call bb&t to verify the payroll check & account and today they said they don't do that when they have for the last 2 years. So disappointed by this, strongly considering changing banks again at this point. Just unacceptable. That i now have to go to a bank I don't have an account with and lose money off of my check to be able to deposit funds into my account. This is just absurd."

"Riem was excellent and provided amazing customer service and made the process very easy. I no longer live in the area and my godmother lost her sister recently and needed to know what to do with the insurance money. She is unmarried with no kids of her own so me and my family are her family. I wanted her to be in capable hands and Riem proved Essex Bank and her staff were the right place. I must say that the next day my godmother did go the branch in mechanicsville to withdraw cash and was so disturbed by the experience. She felt like she was treated extremely rude as even though she wanted to withdraw a large sum there was no care or concern and was under interrogation the entire time. Riem still did such an amazing job she wants to only visit her and her staff at West Broad moving forward."
