Reviews of Virginia Virtual Academy
"If your student has taken the state mandated tests, no matter what state, the sol tests are the most important for registering your child/student Vava is a great alternative to the public education system. But it's not light on the compliancy or emails regarding if your kid missed CC or not. Sheesh. Appreciate that there is grass on the other side in regards to public education virtually vs brick n mortar"
"I wish i could give zero stars for my experience so far. I wish I had seen all these reviews before moving here and applying to transfer. My family has been with k12 for my kid's entire education. I've never had an experience quite this awful and we haven't started classes yet. Everything other people have commented is in line with my experience. The enrollment process and the difficulties we are having for my youngest student, is making us consider leaving k12 altogether. (Her transfer was denied due to reading scores. (3rd) We had meetings for IEP and 504 from previous school and intended to move forward with it with VVA. That seems not to be the case, as she was rejected, while my oldest was accepted.) Our previous K12 school was a completely different experience. You can't get through to anyone at this school and I have had no email responses. My family is going to have to make a 2 plus hour drive, with no appointment, to hopefully be able to speak to someone at the school to resolve our issues. I am sincerely hoping the rest of our experiences with this school will be better."
"Trying to enroll my child in Virginia Virtual Academy was a nightmare. The administration side that does the approval for school enrollment is vague about what the requirements and/or credits are needed in order to be approved, especially when they say that missing information is the cause of having your application being denied but are not specially clear to what that missing information is. When I spoke with the admissions consultants, they were professional and friendly but any questions I had to why our application was denied, the consultant went through their comments section and just read out the comments from the administration side, which I felt that the administration side was being evasive. I was given a phone number to contact the school and its another automated number that you pick which option you need and it takes you back to the enrollment processing team, I felt like I was going in circles, very frustrating. If you're out of state and want to enroll your child in this school, prepare to jump through hoops because they require a State Standardized test Score for your child based on their grade level. Well, I don't know if the school knows this but not all states require a state-mandated standardized testing. California is one of those states, it has a law allowing parents to opt out of state-mandated standardized testing for their child. I wouldn't recommend this school based on my experience with the enrollment process, if this experience was an indication what is going to be like to deal with the school administration, then I'm glad I save myself the trouble. If they're going to basically give you vague answers and you feel like you're getting the runaround, this school may not be for you and your child but maybe others might have a better experience."
"I have had my students in this school since the beginning and I feel like we were pushed out now that they have gained more students. I was given the run around for weeks almost months now and still getting no where. I can't get accurate information and the enrollment process was different this year and was not properly notified of the changes and now I have one student in school and my other student is not in school. He has no books and we told them last year before school let out that we would be re-enrolling. I have to admit I'm having lots of anxiety trying to get this resolved before school starts. My kids love it because it gives us the relief of not being bullied by teachers and students with their mother beside them at all times. Also, helps when grandma gets sick unexpectedly and is sent to the hospital. We can go and be by her side and help her when needed. I myself have my own issues which these school was allowing me to work around. Not having to worry about missing the bus or having to come back and forth to the regular public school to have meetings concerning my children being bullied. Most of the time they were bullied by the teachers and not the students. I really did not like that because we expect grown ups to act grown. I hope all works out for my second student and he is allowed back in school. Because of immunization forms he was kicked and I didn't have a clue he needed them. I would have thought when we were approved to re-enroll before school let out last year that's they would have made sure I knew what he needed. We also talked to a counselor or teacher over summer break and she said both my students was good to go for next year. Again never mentioned forms needed. Can't expect us parents to just know the rules. We are learning as well as our students. Anywho good luck to the student and guardians. We surely need it!"
"This is the worst enrollment process ever! I started the enrollment process back in February. Almost every document I have submitted was rejected and I had to resubmit several times for them to be accepted. I was told that certain documents were needed and some were optional. Now the optional ones I'm being told are now needed. This doesn't make any sense. I have called and talked to several people and nothing is being resolved. This is supposed to be a public school system but if it was then it would not be this difficult to enroll your student! I wished I had looked at the reviews before I started this process because I would not have wasted my time! Beyond frustrated!"
