Tresses Salon

"I've been the client of this salon for several years. Dominique, Joao and another former employee of the Tresses did wonderful job and I was always happy. This was my favorite place in DC. The latest two times the stylist from Bolivia cut my hair. On my recent visit the service and the result left me unhappy. I am not fully sure if the stylist either has zero training or does not care about the quality of the result, or perhaps both. It felt like a "speed service" or competition for minimal number of scissors movements. Overall there were about 5-6 cutting movements with scissors, and service time was less than 10 minutes. Based on her working technique, it is my impression (I am fairly certain) that she did not have a proper training or had a very basic and minimal training as a hair stylist. I never seen any other hair stylist use this type of "childish" technique, anywhere in the world, in 30+ years that I've been visiting hair salons. When I expressed my concerns she told me my hair is wavy and even line cannot be achieved. I asked for minimal trimming of split ends to preserve the length, and she did preserve the hair length - I am very grateful for that. But I still wanted my hair to look nice, not "anything goes we are in a rush" type of service. I needed my hair to look nice for attending the wedding, and after visiting the salon my hair looked worse/less neat than before. A very strange experience. Unfortunately so, because I had great experience with other stylists in this salon in the past. I do think that this stylist can do a good job if she cared about the result a bit more, or perhaps learned proper hair cutting techniques."

"I've been going to this salon since it opened nearly ten years ago and I recommend it highly. I love coming here during the weekday, it's like a little oasis or sanctuary during my busy day. I always look forward to my appointments. Speaking of which, they are great about getting me appointments that fit my schedule and even on occasion when I can only give short notice. They keep their appointment times and I never sit there waiting and waiting. The owner, Ricardo, is warm, friendly and great at making you feel at home in his salon. The other staff are equally professional and courteous. And yes, of course, they do a great job of cutting my hair. I always get compliments."
