Reviews of Brown Sugar Hair Boutique Inc.
"I did not really have an idea of what I wanted other than a professional cut, Tanishia gave me suggestions and even referred me to someone else who could help me if what she suggested I did not like. I had long wavy hair down my back, I ended up getting a trim and a shape-up for a job that I started this Monday. I know have a very professional looking man-bun, first time I have had a real hair cut in over ten years so I was obviously nervous. My look came out perfect and I would definitely recommend this boutique and will be back soon."
"Brown Sugar was a good Salon two years ago. Now with a smaller new location (pics are of the old salon) and the best stylists no longer there, the services are not that good. After two years of going to this salon, I went for a sew in, only to be tripled booked and had to sit and wait. Even more insulting was my sew was a rushed job because the stylist needed to pick her kids up. My partial leave was the worst blending job I've ever received; my leave out looked like a toupee thrown on my head. After that level of service, I was not going to return, but decided to give the salon another chance - BIG mistake. I went to remove the sew in and was tripled booked again even though I asked for an earlier time and was told no. I'd arrived on time and stylist told me if I can return in 20 minutes because she booked others at the same time. i cannot support such bad service and absolute disregard for client's time. Do better! Tell people upfront if you can or cannot accommodate them. It would be appreciated. UPDATE: Response to Owner: Tanisha, if you didn't noticed, I've always tipped well as a customer. I respect hard work. Obviously, my last two years of dedicated customer loyalty to Brown Sugar plus tipping well didn't mean a thing. Best of luck to you too."
"Highly disappointed. I've been here three times and the stylist Ladaja is okay. However the prices do not reflect the work. Im new to the area and wanted to give this place a chance as it is such a headache finding a good stylist. On my second visit, I forgot the pack of hair that was needed for two feed in braids. I was told they charged $10 for a pack of hair (that normally cost $2). So I left to get hair and paid $2 for the hair I needed. That they would be okay with a client leaving to avoid paying 5X the price for hair, absolutely blew my mind. On my last visit, I paid an extra $25 for a deep condition that included me simply sitting under a dryer for a total of 9 minutes with a cap and conditioner on my hair. I was told that a trim was $15. Why does getting a deep condition, which requires absolutely no skill, cost more than a trim? The washes seem to be bare minimum and not really the therapeutic relaxing washes that I'm used to getting. The atmosphere isn't necessarily warm and therapeutic as they portray. It's a basic salon studio with chairs and sinks. The products don't leave my hair with the soft feel that I'm also used to. I've had to leave and get cash at the last minute after being told only cash was being accepted, etc. In my opinion, this company cares more about money than the client. Currently looking for another salon."
"I have been on the fence about getting my hair cut and dyed for months now. I finally decided to go ahead and get it done. I have been searching for a black owned business and finally found one. I made my appointment and the receptionist was very sweet and informative about how I should have my hair prepped before I came, along with the stylist, Jay, she booked me with. The day of my appointment I got a call from the receptionist stating that Jay needed to move my appointment time from 10am to 11:30am. That was perfect timing because I had some errands to run and felt I was gonna be late. Got to the shop about 10-15 minutes early, and it was great. I enjoyed the atmosphere and didn’t have to wait for Jay long. I explained what I was looking for and she recommended a color since this was my first time getting it professionally colored and cut. She asked me a lot of questions about how I wanted it cut before she started which was great. I let her know that I trust her judgement with this process. Jay informed me with all the steps she was doing with my hair from the beginning to the end. I felt very comfortable with her and she was very sweet and easy to talk to. My overall experience was exceptional. I’m glad I went with this shop and can’t wait to see their new shop they are opening up. I will definitely recommend this shop and Jay to any and everyone who is looking for a place to get their hair done."
"I had a 10am appointment with Jasmine B today and loved every moment of it! I got a relaxer and style and was done in 2 hours! Perfect! Jasmine was punctual and very polite when she arrived. She looked nice (both hair and clothing) which is a big plus when first meeting a stylist - I am always weary of a stylist with unhealthy hair. The boutique isn't large but is very clean and well lit. There is also free wifi available for guests. Jasmine was very attentive to my needs and explained everything as she went along. The products smelled wonderful and my hair is bone-straight! Jasmine even gave me an excellent head massage while the conditioner was setting in my hair. It felt fantastic - I hope she will do that every time! The boutique does offer the ability to book appointments online - which is extremely convenient for me. They also allow you to pay via credit card at the salon. Be forewarned, you have to input your credit card to make an appointment. I was slightly taken aback by that but it's because they have a strict cancellation policy. I think the policy is great though and I will most definitely be returning to see Jasmine B!"
