Reviews of Fauquier Health
"In September of 2023 the hospital pump me up with all different types antibiotics for a infection and when I was discharged I was swollen. The IR doctor hit my blood vessel with a needle and give me hematoma and he damage me for life. I have been to the emergency room two times for abdominal pain. The surgical doctors I give them 0 stars they who agreed to have the medicine doctor give me antibiotics. Instead of removing the ruptured appendix.I have been two other hospital since I left Fauquier and the abdominal pain is still present."
"The only reason I gave it one star rather than zero is because you can’t give zero. In fairness there are a couple of very nice employees. This hospital was a pretty good place before it was bought up and became a for profit system. I was inpatient 2013 and 2014, and it was an okay experience. Not great, but okay. No choice because I was admitted on emergency basis. Then I had 2 emergency admissions in 2023, after which I will never go there if I have any choice. As far as registering to get an outpatient procedure , my husband has had to go through 3 separate processes to give the same information. It’s taken over half an hour and we still haven’t made it to the department where he will be asked for all the same information and have to wait in a third waiting room for an indeterminate amount of time before he’s seen. This is an example of what happens when medical care is a profit making business. Profiteering off the misfortune of sick people is not capitalism. It’s exploitation. ."
"Sometimes it's good to patronize local businesses and service providers. They are usually convenient and friendly and you're helping the local economy. However, when it comes to healthcare providers, maybe that's not the best course of action to be taking, especially when that healthcare provider is Fauquier Health. At least that was my experience, and I admit that I was aware of the hospital's dismal ratings and reviews, unfortunately ignoring them. I had made an appointment a couple months ago with Fauquier Health N. Virginia Surgical Specialists surgeon Cynthia Dougherty to consult with regarding my umbilical hernia. The meeting was brief, but pleasant, with a plan to schedule surgery sometime before Christmas. I had met my insurance out of pocket contribution and hoped not to lose a lot of income while recovering over the holidays. Everything was going to be great. The surgery was eventually scheduled for December 19th and in the days before the event, I had several phone discussions with both the hospital and the surgeon's office in preparation for the surgery. One of their main concerns was that I had a ride home due to the anesthesia. I explained that was somewhat of an issue as I lived alone out in the country, had no local relatives and neighbors who mostly all worked during the day. But ultimately, I found a ride to and from the hospital. I arrived at 9 for my scheduled 10:45am. After checking in, I was soon brought back to the surgical prep area. I was asked some questions, asked to sign some things and was then told to disrobe and put my clothes in a bag. I was then given a bag of antibacterial wipes and told to wipe down my whole body and put on a gown. After that, I was taken in to a room and told to lie down on the gurney, was asked some more questions, had my abdomen shaved and compression sleeves put on my lower legs. I was told around 10:15 that the anesthesiologist would be down to talk with me after doing an epidural. That never happened and fortunately neither did the IV they were about to put in my hand, because the next thing, around 11, fifteen minutes after the scheduled surgery, the "Surgical Coordinator" walks in. She tells me that the surgeon, Cynthia Dougherty, who I still haven't seen that morning and never will, and the unknown and unseen anesthesiologist, have decided that since I live alone and that there will be no one to watch me after the surgery, we shouldn't do the surgery. I said, "WHAT? DO YOU THINK MAYBE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED TWO MONTHS AGO." Or even two weeks ago or in the multiple conversations I had with the pre-surgical staff in the days leading up to that day. No one ever discussed this, even though as I said, I had communicated my ride issue with them repeatedly and that I lived alone. The "Coordinator" then says that she could call the surgeon and ask if we could do the surgery with local anesthesia. They could still do it possibly with a local. I'm thinking a couple things at this point. Firstly, what does she mean, "Call the doctor?" Where is Dr. Dougherty? Was she going to do this surgery by Zoom? Secondly, if reindeer CAN fly, does that mean there IS a Santa Claus, cause I must have stumbled though some portal in the hospital into an alternate universe. I might not be writing this critique right now if the surgeon and anesthesiologist had had the decency and courtesy to come and speak to me in person about their concerns. But frankly, I have no proof they were even in the country. Now though, I look at this aborted surgery in another light. I'm just glad I was able to walk out of that place. Period. If you can screw up something really simple that badly, forget the serious stuff. And besides still having a real "outy," I only lost time and a lot of money in this episode. And maybe a small part of my sanity."
"I had a amazing service there. the staff and the doctors went above and beyond. My issue is their payment portal and trying to get a hold of some on to grant me access to my account so I can pay my bill. Their site phone number goes to a 3rd party customer service. the give you a number that just leads back tot he 3rd party. The payment portal, when you finally get access, is a pain to navigate. The payment section only list all past and present charges, and does not tell you which services you have already paid. To figure out what needs to be paid you have to dig through the site and find a different list and have it opened in a separate page and jump between pages to figure out what you need to pay. The payment portal really needs to be redesigned for user first."
"Had a great experience with everyone there for my bone density test, but have had horrible experiences with the ER. To the point where I will drive an extra half hour to go to the ER at another hospital. Have heard from lots of friends and neighbors that they too will avoid this hospital if at all possible. How sad our local hospital, which used to have great reviews, is now avoided. Please don’t bother responding with your canned response. I appreciate you are trying to get contact info out there, but it feels mechanical and placating. Thank you."
