Reviews of Lucky Buns at The Wharf
"I have never been beaten by a salad before. This was so delicious and so large I didn't want to stop but I was so full. The French Fries were huge! The braai seasoning is my favorite, but the curry was really nice too! We shared two things of fries between four of us and could have probably just done one. It was worth it to have both flavors though!"
"Nothing like a good burger and they add a nice twist to the offering including their own sauce and a nice creamy vinegar sauce for the fries. The steak fries are abundant & tasty. A good burger has to be accompanied by good fries. The burger was a fresh double stack patty, well seasoned with a good grade of beef! You can’t beat the view to the water. I was grateful to be greeted right away by the manager & with a service attitude. The waiter/bartender was also good and on top of the service. I was given ketchup, water & extra napkins without having to ask. He was nicely engaged with everyone but did not hover over my shoulder."
"The signage and decor makes this look like a cute little spot to eat and have drinks, right on the water. The food was pretty good. We would go back for the fries and nachos for sure if not for the service. The drinks were not great, we tried the Macunaima and the Pauly Walnuts. However, we drank them because we paid a premium for them. The service, however, was absolutely terrible. That was a deal breaker for me. Our server, Kastriot, didn't show up for the first 10 to 15 minutes that we were sitting. He was scarce the entire time we were there, going in and out of the restaurant. It was obvious that we, as paying clients, were not his priority and it was disappointing to see other guests being well taken care of while we were left wondering where our server was. He left as soon as we paid. We paid a decent amount for our meal and drinks that night. However I would not return after our experience."
"Lucky Buns at The Wharf in Washington, D.C., certainly presents an inviting ambiance, teasing visitors with the promise of a memorable culinary experience. The aesthetic and decor give off an immediate sense of coolness and modernity, setting expectations high. However, the actual dining experience, in my case, fell somewhat short of those lofty expectations. The bird chicken sandwich, which one would expect to be a highlight, unfortunately possessed an unwelcome fatty texture, detracting from the overall enjoyment. On the brighter side, the fries managed to shine, serving as the culinary high point of the meal with their crispiness and flavor. The drink selection also left something to be desired. The unsweet tea, which one might typically expect to be a straightforward black tea, turned out to be green tea — an unexpected twist that, for my palate, was less than pleasant. While the setting and ambiance of Lucky Buns hold great potential, the actual fare and beverage offerings could benefit from a bit more refinement and consistency. As of now, it's a tentative 2 stars, with hope for improvements in the future."
"Delicious Bogan Bun ($17) and great service in a clean and bright setting. I didn't order fries ($8), because I knew I couldn't finish the large basket. The manager came over and when I told him I would only come back if I was with a friend to share the fries with, he said they would accommodate single diners in the future by offering a smaller and less expensive option upon request. I'll be back one way or another because those fries looked so good."
