"Paid $250 per person for dome car and found out if you don't have a 'D' after your seat number, then you don't sit in upper level. We did, others were quite upset. 19 degrees outside and climate controlled dome car was also 19 degrees. My wife told the attendant, Jesse, if the temperature got warmer...he said, " I can't tell you that. " 2 hours after boarding, we were offered coffee. Should have given us a mug with the 611 engine for a keepsake...since we purchased the best tickets. Train left 1 hour after all aboard. Volunteers were friendly, and Jesse was very knowledgeable. 3 sugar snacks were offered, so no diabetic could indulge. Way over priced. Extremely disorganized, but attendants did ask for feedback. To note, glass globe gifts were actually frozen. It's not something I would recommend and upper level discouraged walker since the aisle would not accommodate. Handicapped were on their own. Table seating facing guests and seats were cold, hard vinyl. Extremely uncomfortable waiting 1 hour before leaving the station, 4 hours more stuffed under that cramped table seat and no disembarking until you got back to the station. All windows were filthy and overhead glass cracked, as evidenced by accompanied video. Disappointing."
"Going tomorrow but already disappointed......I understand mechanical problems happening especially with this type of locomotive.....but that being said I should be able to have a refund or partial refund due to 611 not being in service. Unless you cancel 7days In advance there's no refund.......... at least it's peak weekend for foliage. Hopefully it will be a pleasant experience...... Review with edited and updated information....... The crew worked their butts off 611 was up and running. And afterwards the crew make sure my son got a tour of anything and everything. Very pleased overall."
"First visit for the Virginia Scenic Railway special 611 Excursion. Incredibly friendly & helpful folks on the train (all volunteers!). We had good weather, so dealing with the tents & the dust was reasonable. Abundant parking, well done temporary site."
"The road signage for this place is almost nonexistent. When you’re coming from out of state, you expect to see adequate signage from the road. I give credit to the volunteers that run it but after paying $500+, the value of the experience, even for the ardent rail fan, is not worth the expense. We had a group of 8 volunteers in our car that were loud and reduced our ability to talk and enjoy the experience as we expected we would as compared to other rail excursions in the VA-PA-WVA area."
"PLEASE GO AND EXPERIENCE THIS! Volunteer run, vendors, and a peaceful ride on a historical train. Snacks available. Nothing like seeing the 611 up close and personal. I'm so grateful to the folks who make this happen!"
