Reviews of Bulpan Korean BBQ
"Not just the best Korean food in town. They're actually good. They're better than many restaurants in Seoul. We usually eat in and get the barbecue combos, or get the jjim when we are short on time. But this time we ordered food to go. The quality is just as good as eating at the restaurant. The galbi and kimchi pork are always a hit with everyone who tries them. The galbi jjim packs a lot of deep flavor for such a simple looking dish. Their kimchi is some of the best in Virginia, both the side dish kimchi and the aged kimchi in the jjim. We love Bulpan so much, we try to come back at least every other week. If you're eating at the restaurant, the staff are all friendly and they're proactive about refilling your veggie side dishes; but if they don't notice you need more, just ask."
"Went to Bulpan Korean BBQ for the first time tonight and it was absolutely delicious with amazing service thanks to Andrew!!! The overall experience was great. We absolutely loved the unique experience of not having to cook your own food but having it cooked right in front of you! The quality of the meats were great and the sides were also delicious. Highly recommend!!!!"
"* Update At the soft opening, the server was great, and the skill to cook the meat was just perfect. However, when I returned 3rd time with friends after a couple of months to treat them to a great meal turned out very sad experience. Our server was so young and so new he failed in many ways. The meat was overcooked and undercooked, the drink order was never taken, refills were not coming on time, and other dishes came at different times... He had to serve/cook for folks at the bar table (the opposite end from us) at the same time as he put our meat on the grill which was on the restaurant side, therefore overcooked and undercooked, recooked meats. Seriously? $300 is not well spent! He told us he learned how to grill but wasn't explained in detail. Hmm?...? They worked very hard for the soft opening and now??!! *original review. A very new concept of Korean BBQ. The server cooks meat for you instead of cooking ourselves as all usual K-BBQ restaurants. At first, it seemed weird just because of what I'm used to, cooking to my liking, the speed that I enjoy. But soon I changed my views on this. The server cooked the meat just right, in the right order, and with perfect timing. I could simply enjoy my meal at a good speed and without being busy or rushed. I normally leave K-BBQ places with a smell of BBQ all over me which is nothing to complain about but since the grill and the vent above are away from your table no such worries here. There's an area by the front window for a small group (about 10?) to sit separately which is a plus and with 3 grills I believe. * It'll be 5 stars if they offer lettuce, garlic, onion, and mushrooms with meat, definitely not enough veggies. It's the heart of what Korean foods are so well known, famous, and loved for, tons of veggies and many *banchan* with every meal *included*. It's on the menu but charges an unacceptable price which is not plentiful. Also, the spicier sauce is a must! For now and as is a bit too fusion??!! They seemed to have a 'we'll get better' mindset so I'm hopeful that details will be even more improved soon."
"At bulpan I was served by David, and I must tell you, he was not only a great server, but an experience. Every single meat touched and served by this man was impeccable with amazing visuals and great depth of flavor- I could almost taste the animals coming back alive! One thing that could be improved upon is how late our bowl of rice were served- we only received it after our second meat was cooked. However, this might be David's big picture drawn for us, to enlighten us to realize that truly fascinating meat does not require rice. The side dishes were amazing as well. I personally liked the bean sprouts. In terms of the meats, I got Combo B and Kkotsal. David recommended me to eat spicy pork belly with the new spicy sauce, which brought the taste of pork belly to new frontiers. I did not know that pork belly could taste that good, this has to be illegal. The Kkotsal was truly a life-changing experience as well, I am now able to appreciate cows much more after this feast tonight. I will most definitely be coming back again."
"I visited bulpan recently and had a great dining experience with my friends. First off, the atmosphere is bright and clean, and being able to sit side by side instead of across one another makes it a great date spot. And they cook your food so you can focus on chatting!! The 4 of us (3 guys 1 girl) ordered the beef combo and was stuffed. The array of side banchans and the meats itself were great. I love enjoying being able to try a variety of food. Our server J was professional and kind and quick to answer any of our questions. Another server Paul also assisted us, showing the restaurant had a family atmosphere. The meats were great, good marbling and cooked to a rare temp at request. I liked that the grill was aside do smoke wasn’t getting in my eyes or clothes. We ordered the kimchhijjim and it was the perfect acidic balance to the heavy meat flavors. Grabbing a terra was the perfect way to wash all of it down too. Overall, 10/10 I look forward to stopping by again! Absolutely destroyed the table."
