Reviews of Hanover Tavern
"I so enjoyed our visit. Come hungry, because the food was sooooo good. We also got a tour of the tavern as as the courthouse and jail across the street. It’s located about 25 min outside of Richmond and we’ll worth the drive."
"My husband and I stopped here for brunch on a Saturday. The food is standard American pub fare and tasted fine, but nothing about our meal really stood out. The tavern itself is supposed to be one of the oldest in Virginia, but with all of the renovations that have been done the pub section doesn’t feel particularly atmospheric. The museum upstairs felt much more historic, with better ambiance, and I wish we could have eaten up there."
"We had our rehearsal dinner at Hanover Tavern on 11/04/2023 and truly could not have picked a better location. I am not originally from Virginia and every guest on my side lives out of state. When planning our wedding, I wanted to provide a true "Fall in Virginia" feel along with some historical venues and Hanover Tavern gave us exactly that. The ambiance was so intimate for our close to 50 person even but offered us enough space to not feel crammed. We rented out the Taylor Room and Pub and it gave us our own private area to enjoy the evening. The staff was ON IT and gave us everything we asked for. The food was INCREDIBLE. Our guests (who are not only foodies but also well-seasoned wedding guests/bridal party members) are STILL talking about how great the food was. They allowed us to bring in our own special desserts and made sure we had the necessary items to properly serve them. Krissy made the entire process so seamless and easy and was excellent with communicating with us throughout the months leading up to the event. I'm so glad I booked this venue and highly recommend for the ambiance, staff and pricing! We can't wait to go back and visit!"
"I made reservations 3 days prior to eating lunch. For 2 people at 12:30 on Saturday. We had tickets for the Haunted Tavern theater inside the bldg. for 2pm and thought it would be convenient. We were taken to the bar area and seated at a pub table. I wasn’t expecting to walk past the dining area when I made reservations (wasn’t told or asked about my preference). I’ve never been before and didn’t know with reservations that I needed to state my choice. The bar area was quaint enough, until my wife looked above our heads and commented about the cobwebs. I sighed, and thought spiders happen. Perhaps a quick dust above the pub tables (they are tall) would benefit the atmosphere. It was also where the staff hung out during a lull in serving, which did get awkward for us since they were talking shop. Hence, Atmosphere 3 stars…since I would’ve preferred the dining room. The wife had a Margarita with salt-she said it was very good, and I had a Bloody Mary that I was also happy about. Tristan, our server, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Even when the 12:00 show let out at 1:30 and the bar got swamped he provided the check and was able to get us out of there swiftly. Hence 5 stars for Tristan. I ordered the corn beef (highly recommend-melts in your mouth) and two sides, Brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes. They both looked delicious. Unfortunately, they both were so inundated with salt, I couldn’t eat them. Tristan was kind enough to return them to the kitchen. When they were provided, they both came back with no seasoning at all. I laughed and thought I should’ve have said hold just the salt. Even bland, I ate them anyway, since they were cooked beautifully. The wife had blackened salmon, salad and asparagus. also mentioned -Salmon was a little salty and no seasoning on the asparagus. Hence 4 stars for the food. The wife still said it’s her favorite new restaurant. Overall, I recommend the restaurant, and remember when making reservations ask for the dining area."
"We went for the Haunted Tavern show from FEVER. Before the show we ate, it was really good. Fried green tomatoes for our app. I had crab cake sandwich, my friend had fried catfish and cheddar grits. Everything was great. The show in the theater was amazing. Had a wonderful time. Adults only 4 story theme drinks and wonderful story telling. The setup was sexy."
