"As someone who eats out every night of their life and a lover of Japanese food, I can tell you this is the best I've ever had. No Japanese restaurant compares to the high quality and consistency that Shoku brings. I eat here close to once a week, and it's always a 5/5. Don't waste your money going to another Japanese restaurant."

"I called in an order for my wife. I went to the window to pick up the order and the young lady says that will be 38.xx. I said for one sirloin dinner?? She said the order was for 2 dinners. The owner who took my order over the phone comes to the window and says I order 2 . I started to leave them both, but I knew my wife really wanted the sirloin dinner so I paid for both orders. I will never return to this place. I worked in customer service over 30 years and would never treat anyone like the owner treated me."

"Me and my family have eating here allot. The food is great the waitress are very nice. But last night we were setting at the table eating and a cockroach only she's stronger came crawling across the table. I'm not naive I realize all restaurants have them but I've never had one crawl on the table. The owner seen it stepped on it and didn't offer to discount or comp our dinner. All she said was the exterminator from (DOTSONS) was not doing his job. So with that being said we will not be eating here again."

"This restaurant is rather dark on the inside & the furniture is not great. The service is usually good though. The food however, is excellent. I've eaten here several times & the scallops are always fresh & properly cooked & the yakiniku is delicious & cooked perfectly. The carrots are prepared soft & sweet. The rice is well cooked - not crunchy & not mushy. I have been to numerous other restaurants like this in Johnson City & Bristol & this restaurant's food blows them all away! I don't even use the shrimp sauce - it's that good!! I definitely recommend this restaurant for a great meal!"

"A good restaurant that has declined. In the past Shoku was a place where the food was delicious and the service was friendly. Over the last year the food became inconsistent - several times the meal was so salty the food was difficult to eat. I always returned to Shoku hoping the food would better than my last time. Sometimes it improved, other times it did not. Tonight was the last time I will dine at Shoku. The restaurant had ran out of soup with no substitutions offered. I found a bone fragment in my teriyaki chicken and rice. My server never returned after taking my order. I had been ready to leave for some time. the owner saw me stand up and anticipated my walking to the register and grabbed my ticket. Finally, the girl that rang me up asked how my meal was. I told her I was disappointed there was no soup and nothing else substituted. She said “that’s the way it is” and I replied “but you are still charging me the same price even though I didn’t get everything included” and she walked off. And so did I. Goodbye Shoku!"
