Reviews of Maple Pine Breakfast & Thai Kitchen
"Came for restaurant week but will definitely visit another time! The food is just bomb! Roasted duck and beef rib in curry is soooo delicious. I think we just found a gem!"
"The food was great. The portion size was big too. Had a great time here. We ordered Thai samosa, which had sweet potato stuffing, Tom kha soup, Basil fried rice and drunken noodles with chicken with the spice level of 5/5. It was a perfect lunch for us and enjoyed it thoroughly."
"For me, this was a 3.5 stars experience, but since 2 of 4 diners didn't have a complaint and 1 other only had a couple, I'm keeping my rating at 4 stars since a 3.5 is not available on Google. 5 is reserved for awesome perfection, I think people are a little too loose with the 5 stars sometimes. Visited for dinner this time. At the time the service was excellent but there weren't many patrons. Once the place started to get busy, expectedly the service slowed down. They had only three front of the house workers. Very nice and articulate young people. Our table shared the Spring Roll and Avocado Fresh Roll and both were good. My only knock was the peanut sauce with the Fresh Roll was dull. It could have used some spice, splash of fish sauce and some lime juice. 1 diner had the Panang Curry with Shrimp and loved it. 1 diner had the Poo Goong Ob and liked it very much. A third diner had the Dusty Beef and liked it (there is nothing "dusty" about it and the server could not explain the name), but wanted more spice and said the beef was a bit chewy. The Serrano's in vinegar from the spice tray fixed the spice, but tough beef is tough beef. I had the Chef's Special Spicy Crab Curry and was disappointed. The curry itself was too sweet for the lump crab that was in it, burying the sweet crab in more sweet it didn't need. It was also nowhere near 3* spicy, maybe a 1/2* at most. I had to step on it all with the spice tray and the unused sauce from the Poo Goong Ob to bring it around. Also, the soft shelled crab was fried to oblivion, it should have never made the plate. It was just an over-deep-fried blob of coating with little semblance of crab in shape or flavor. Wont be getting that again, for sure. The spice tray was a disappointment. It looked like it hadn't been refreshed since the two weeks we had been here before. The Prik Nam Pla (look it up) had basically no Thai Bird chili's and barely even imparted the taste of fish sauce when used, let alone the other ingredients that are supposed to be in there. We taste-shared the Croissant Bread Pudding and it was pretty good...nothing to rave about but not bad either. Not crazy about the beer selection here, or the house cocktail selections. The cocktails may appeal to women though. No gut problems this time! Original review: We were here at 1PM on a Friday and they weren't very busy, so the service was fine for us. Prices are inline with other places. It's expensive to eat at a nice restaurant anywhere these days Food was not bad. I wont be too "judgy" on one experience. I started with the Tom Yum soup, the standard I judge all Thai places on the first time I dine there...it was OK, ingredients seemed solid but it was a touch sweet and needed help from the spice tray. My wife had the Gyoza and liked them. I tasted a half of one and it was not bad. The dipping sauce was not as good as I've had and made. She also had the "Ginger Spice" entree. She liked it but said the flavors, including the ginger could have been stronger. Once she added some spicy sauce from my entree it was improved. I had the Crying Tiger. A version of Nam Tok with larger steak pieces that are grilled. The sauce is what makes a Thai steak salad and I made the mistake of asking for it to be amped up because on the menu it had no spice rating. Well, I got a sauce that made me cry and had to ask for the original to continue to eat, but by then my palate was blown out. I should have just used the spice tray to tweak the heat...and they do have a fairly traditional spice tray, although lacking in actual peppers in the one they gave me...most people dont use the spice tray, so, many Thai places don’t keep up with them and make sure the jars are well filled with serranos or jalapenos in vinegar and Thai hot chilies in fish sauce. I was just glad to see they had a spice tray. It's not "Thai" for me without one. Had blowout bubbling guts within a half hour of eating here. Probably that insane spice. Not a usual thing for me."
"I live at Pantops and was excited to see a new restaurant, let alone a Thai place come to the area and within walking distance. Tried it today for the first time and it did not disappoint, will definitely be back. The service was great and the food was delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try the breakfast."
