"We came in for a school trip and the servers were so kind to us and our group even though we were so big we were greeted and welcomed with kindness and love! They had some awesome souvenirs and the prices were awesome, some small town hospitality. Loved every second and best sausage links I've ever had. Would highly recommend! If your stopping for mr Jefferson come here to enjoy a nice meal."
"We loved the food and welcoming atmosphere of Moose’s! High quality food for an affordable price. Can’t wait to go back!"
"Excellent service and an interesting location and atmosphere. This is a well established local hangout that seems to have a lot of repeat business (statement made in watching the interactions of hostesses and patrons over the course of an hour or so). The food is acceptable and was well prepared. There are some unique options that are worth trying. The Triple B (a burger with grilled sliced pineapple, cheese, and some teriyaki sauce) was a very interesting and delicious combination though the sauce must have been only in the hole of pineapple and sealed in by the melted cheese because I didn't taste it until I got to the center of the burger and it gushed out into sweet savory mess. Fries are typical commercial small cut (not quite shoe string) that were freshly cooked and generous. - Hostesses and wait staff are very friendly and demonstrate eagerness to serve."
"Been wanting to eat here, seeing all the great reviews. I'm almost never in this area at lunch time and never breakfast time, but we were taking our van for exhaust work at a nearby recommended equally old school shop. Had almost no idea what to expect. As others have written, this is one of those real-deal old-school diners...sort of. A somewhat disjointed interior and you'll probably smell a little bit like the kitchen when you leave. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu to share because they dont have an online presence other than Facebook and I didn't see a lot there either...or a menu. This place is open for breakfast and lunch only. They close at 3PM. The menu is typical breakfast fare they serve all day and they have burgers and sandwiches and a handful of salads. No real platters except for some of the breakfast selections looked "plattery". We were here for lunch at about 1:30. At this time on a Thursday the service was excellent. My wife had their basic burger, first one on the menu. It wasnt bad. The most impressive thing was a big super-red slice of what looked like a homegrown or Hanover tomato. In a world of waxy looking half-ripe hot-house tomatoes, this stood out. The burger was cooked perfectly with just a hint of pink remaining, but she said there was no salt and pepper on the burger and was overall just a somewhat bland burger. Not bad but nothing to rave about. She also said the onion rings were OK and they didn't seem to have been salted right out of the fryer. She doesn't use ketchup on onion rings so she really tastes the actual onion rings. Again, not bad, but nothing to rave about. I had the biscuits and gravy but wish I hadn't. Not that they were bad, it was just such a huge pile of carbs! The biscuits are good and beautiful and fluffy. I'll be they would make a heck of a breakfast sandwich. I had the creamed chipped beef gravy. The gravy was pretty basic, not bad, had some tang so I'm guessing buttermilk. It was woefully shy on chipped beef. I could see some flakes in there but couldn't taste it. I was quickly wishing I had chosen that BLT grilled cheese I had been eyeballing, but I did eat the whole plate of biscuits and gravy! It was good enough to finish it all. If you are in this area and hungry, this is a great place to stop and get a bite. The prices are very reasonable. We had those two plates and brought home two pieces of cake and our bill was only $23 not including tax and tip. I wouldn't consider this to be a "destination" restaurant to drive out of the way to go to, and we wont likely be back. Not because we had a bad experience, we are just seldom in this area at breakfast and lunch time. This is a hole in the wall away from most of Charlottesville and if we drive to town just for a meal we are usually looking for something a step up from Moose's...and usually pay for it!"
"Haven’t had French toast is good in a long time. The rest of the food we ordered was just right. The service was great, even for a busy Sunday afternoon the waitress was very attentive to our table of five I love the fact that, as soon as you walk in, you have a giant moose head staring right at you. You can tell the owner supports service members, and first responders from the wall full of patches. The waitress even shared a pretty cool story about how one patch was given by a police officer, who pulled the owners over. The vibe was just right, and it made us feel at home. We just moved into town about a week ago but I’m glad we found this place, we’ll definitely be coming back with the family and friends"
