"Sombrero’s was wonderful! Bernardo came in on a day they are normally closed to make a Nacho Bar for a friend’s bachelorette party! All the ladies raved about how good everything was! The staff were so accommodating and I highly recommend for catering!"
"Sombrero's Mexican Cuisine & Cafe has been a favorite spot of ours for quite a while, and so finally doing a review on them seems far overdue. Tucked away in York Place on the Downtown Mall, Sombrero’s is an ideal date spot, business lunch location, and just when you’re hungry in general! Owned by Bernardo Martinez and Lucrecia Morales, Sombrero’s is a family business, with authentic cuisine made with fresh ingredients, and coincidentally were the first ever guests on Today y Mañana. Beverages: In this photo you can see the horchata, a traditional drink in Hispanic culture that has origins in Spain. Originally made with the tigernut (chufa), in #Mexico and South America it’s common to make it with almond and rice, sweetened, and topped with #cinnamon. It’s a dessert in a glass that accompanies the food fabulously. Food: It's hard to know where to start with the food. Between their #huarachas, #empanadas, #tacos, what isn’t delicious? Mexico's #cuisine is one of the most unique culinary traditions in the world and to have Bernardo and Lucrecia in #Cville is a unique way to experience that tradition. While there are so many varying choices to make inside the restaurant, I often find myself asking this lovely couple what the traditions are in their country so I can taste the food with its proper toppings. Naturally, this led me to order the tacos al pastor, a favorite of mine and a dish that is probably familiar. You’ll find that pictured above, along with the empanadas, which are stuffed with chicken and beef, and deep fried fresh. Every bite simply bursting with flavor at Sombrero’s, and with today’s cost-conscious public, it’s the perfect place to put down a dollar. Food with a flavor profile like this should cost more, something I’ve told that to Bernardo myself, who laughed at me and explained that Sombrero’s is a labor of love and the most important thing is that customers enjoy their food. Well, dear reader, I can personally, on my reputation as a gastronome, that you will enjoy this authentic Mexican experience at Sombrero’s. Don’t forget to catch Today y Mañana every Thursday at 10:15 am on the I Love CVille network and stay tuned for more reviews!"
"This place had the best authentic Mexican food I have ever had. The place was clean and tidy and the owners, Bernardo and his wife, Lucrecia are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and that the food is good! The owners are very big on making sure the food is fresh and authentic. It's not the Tex-mex that everyone is used too! It is definitely a hidden gem and I did not expect to find the best authentic Mexican cuisine in Charlottesville Virginia"
"We were on the way to Shenandoah park and we passed by this little family-run Mexican restaurant. And we are so glad we did. Delicious authentic Mexican food in a really unexpected place. The food wasn't too spicy nor greasy. They take their time, but you get a perfect Mexican meal. Coffee is good too. We have been to a lot of said good-value Mexican spots in big cities, and they were nowhere near this place in quality. If you're ever in the area around Shenandoah park / Charlottesville / Madison go to Sombrero's."
