Reviews of Lofts at Lyman Mill
"TL;DR: My worst apartment experience ever. 10 years, 4 states and 10 apartments later. 1.) Toured our 1BR/1BA in April 2021. Was told rent would be $1575 (not including a separate $50/mo charge for owning a pet) or the $300 non-refundable deposit for our cat. 2.) Received a lease late April 2021 for $1650. Property manager at the time noted that the $50 pet rent would be included. The math didn’t add up, but with it being a new apartment, it didn’t seem necessary to create an immediate issue over $25 3.) After trying to give other units the benefit of the doubt for ~30 days, we were forced to file 3 noise complaints within the first 4 months for noise, music, stomping, and banging after 10pm. Property Manager at the time addressed these issues immediately, which we were happy about. 4.) With winter now in full-force, the parking lots were frequently delayed being cleared by a third-party, sometimes until the late afternoon. In some cases, typically leaving my wife, an essential employee during COVID, stuck and unable to make it into work by 7am. 5.) Additionally, when they were cleared, they were done so in a fashion that if you weren’t able to get your car out beforehand (as there was no schedule, announcement or heads up from management) it would be plowed in. We were paying for snow removal and doing it ourselves. 6.) Around this time of the year, there was not only a change in property management, but we received new neighbors on both sides of our apartment. This became another point in time where we were trying to stay optimistic about living here. 7.) The new tenant to our side was even louder, up later (1-2am) and seemed to either not care, or frankly understand how poorly soundproofed this building is. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt as a new tenant/move-in, we let it go on for 3+ weeks before making a complaint. 8.) When we finally reached out to the new property manager to lodge a formal complaint, the complaint was not addressed and we were questioned as if we were hearing things, or being untruthful. 9.) On 2 later occasions during the work week, this trend continued. Wildly excessive noise post 10pm, and each time we contacted the property manager, it was met with questioning as if we were lying. 10.) On one specific occasion, management told us they can only go by what the hallway cameras show them and refuted our complaint stating “I don’t live here so I don’t understand” and “That most people stay up past 10pm so the rule doesn’t make a lot of sense”. Now please, would someone explain to me two things: 1.) How can a hallway camera possibly capture NOISE, INSIDE an apartment, from another apartment? And 2.) In what world, would management side against a rule THEY made? 11.) Approx 20 days before move-out, management contacted us, as well as, other tenants in the building noting the previous property manager made a mistake(s) by not administering a pet-security deposit, in addition to a separate pent-rent (not included in the lease.) In short, 27 days before move-out, management now expected us to pay an additional (non-refundable) $350 to cover mistake THEY once again made. Following this email, I made it abundantly clear I would not be paying either, and somehow, miraculously our pet security deposit was found. Though, we still ended up having to fork up $50 for the pet-rent. 13.) After receiving a substantially less-than-expected security deposit refund (for whatever reason, it wasn’t worth the energy to inquire) I deposited the check, only to find out the check had “bounced” two days later because because the check “flagged” for NO given reason from Bank of RI. I went to my bank, confirmed this was the case, and immediately reached out to Lyman for this to be resolved. I ended up having to contact the Barkan Corporation directly, who ended up: 1.) addressing the issue immediately 2.) admitting fault on Lyman’s end and 3.) apologized, covered my overturn/chargeback fee and said they would happily put another check in the mail ASAP. A true night in shining armor. I’m"
"The Lyman Lofts are the best! My Girlfriend and I have lived here for the past few months and have enjoyed every second! Marianne, the property manager, is great. She is very responsive and made our move in experience seamless. The building is beautiful and very well-maintained. She’s super friendly, responds to emails/requests super quickly, and has made my move-out process super smooth. I can’t thank her enough! Doug is also the best! He always responds super quickly to maintenance issues and is always super friendly whenever I catch him in the hallway. Overall, I’be had the best experience living here and am super sad to leave!!"
"My wife and I currently reside at Lyman Mill and I will say the first few months were a little hectic due to some noise issues/ paperwork not being correct etc. However, once Marianna became the property manager she helped us with everything! We were quickly transferred to a new apartment that works so much better for our family and she updated all of our paperwork. She has truly been so patient, helpful and caring through this whole process. Lyman is a beautiful place to live and I truly believe that the staff they have now is amazing."
"From beautiful apartments to terrific leasing staff and maintenance team. This was also my very first apartment accomplishing one of my goals to live in a mill. I was so happy to be part of this fantastic community because well, Wendi makes Lofts at Lyman feel like a fascinating community and a great place to call home. As a former assistant property manager, I am amazed at how Wendi was always going above and beyond for her residents. I recently moved out, and I was sad to leave such a wonderful place. See you soon!"
