"I booked my first session at the Massage Envy Cranston location a little over a year ago when I received a gift certificate for my birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect, and sort of had the bias that a massage from a franchise location in a chain wouldn't match the quality of the independent LMT I used to see until he had to give up his home studio. As I put it to a friend, "You don't go to a McDonald's when you're craving a burger." And BOY was I wrong. I booked at Cranston totally by coincidence, because of all the area clubs, they had an appointment I could make with a therapist who offered firm and deep pressure--I had some tension areas I didn't think would respond to a light pressure "relaxation" massage. When I arrived the staff were warm and welcoming. I got there early and they told me a little bit about the structure and benefits of a membership, but I didn't feel pushed. Then they brought me to the "Tranquility Room" to relax and wait for my therapist. What followed was the most incredible massage of my life. My therapist quickly identified knots and tension areas I didn't even know were there and maintained a deep pressure for the entire hour, which must be so physically taxing. They were extremely professional and conscientious about consent and draping. When the hour was over, I didn't want to move from the bed so I could savor the feeling (it turns out I didn't need to worry, because the relief from that massage lasted for days). When I went back to the front desk to tip and rebook, they mentioned the membership again and did not push when I said I wanted to think about it--besides, I was so blissed out, I don't think I could have legally signed anything! When I came back for my next appointment, though, I had made up my mind and signed up for the membership, and have gone monthly ever since. I have been meaning to write this review for some time (though I am hesitant to name my amazing therapist and create more competition for appointments), but I'm doing so now because I recently went to a different location and it made me appreciate how top-tier the Cranston team is. This other ME location, "Location X", had very inattentive front desk staff. They didn't tell me where to go to wait, so I took a chair around the corner not realizing they had a tranquility room further back, and spent my waiting time listening to them swearing and complaining about how one's boyfriend was a "******* loser." The massage itself was good, but the therapist had a very awkward bedside (tableside?) manner, and was very laissez faire about draping, leaving my underwear exposed for part of the massage, though the massage itself was above board--I wasn't bothered but others might be. Just a completely different experience. It just made me realize how amazing the ME Cranston location is. If you're like me and maybe a little biased against massage "chains," or had a negative experience like I did at a "Location X," I definitely recommend you challenge your preconceptions and give it a try there!"

"If you’re interested in Massage Envy as a new customer, I highly recommend that you book and pay for your appointments one visit at a time. Massage Envy will offer you a discount for upcoming additional appointments if you join as a member and pay monthly with auto pay. Massage Envy is very mismanaged. My wife and I found it very difficult to schedule an appointment with-in a week’s time as they were always booked. We had had to book appointments several weeks to a month in advance, which unfortunately, quite often we had to change. In the meant time, we were paying for appointments every month, unable to get an appointment that fit our schedule and accumulating a significant number of pre-paid appointments. We tried to freeze the auto-pay to catch up with the unused appointments, but Massage Envy doesn’t provide services while the account is frozen even though the appointments have already been paid. Also, they won’t reimburse you for the unused pre-paid appointments if you decide to cancel the membership. Massage Envy is a very parasitical, corporate, money oriented organization that doesn’t put the customer first. Avoid Massage Envy."
