"I have written over 30 reviews on Google Maps and all but one is very positive. This will be my second negative Google review. "Miscommunication" is the single word I would use to sum up the experience of having CC come into our house and redesign 6 spaces. Our house is new construction and the bedroom closets, linen closets & pantry all had wire shelving. We asked CC to replace these shelves. Pantry & linen closets: we lost several inches of shelving depth therefore decreasing our storage space. Guest bedroom: Installation of a hook to accommodate belts was placed on a bedroom wall instead of inside a closet. Primary bedroom: One section was held up for several months for a missing part. During that time we did not have a clothing rod in one section for hanging clothes. When staff returned to install, it turned out that the missing piece that precluded installing the rod was a shelf that we didn't want. The main miscommunication was that in 3 spaces our shelving depth was decreased by installing California Closets shelving & we lost space. They have an explanation for this, but none of the points were shared with us prior to installation. Other points of miscommunication: we were told that we had to remove all the wire shelving from our closets before CC installed. This came up several times prior to installation. When the installation staff arrived they pointed out that they could have removed the wire shelving for us (!). A phone call to CC and we were told that the holes left behind by the wire shelving removal that we did not have time to spackle would be attended to by their staff on a later visit. That never happened. In a phone conversation with a staff member I was told my final invoice would be rewritten to reflect a discount. Several days later another staff member emailed telling me that the promise of a discount was a "miscommunication." The design in the 2 bedrooms has given us more space. The laundry room design has been helpful. The installation staff did a nice job of installing and cleaning up after themselves. The CC shelving is in set sizes, not made to order. Because some of our closets were deep we lost space. Our guest bathroom linen closet loss is quite dramatic. Would I use CC again? NO. Very expensive and very poor at communicating & describing their product. We are in the process of finishing our basement & creating a walk in clothing closet which will not be designed by California Closets."
"I worked with the designer, Sharon Aaronson, to create a large entertainment center for a wall in my living room. Sharon is great to work with and within 2 days came up with several creative and elegant designs. I chose her very first creation. Less than two months later, today, Rachel arrived at my door for the installation. Wow. This woman is amazing. She worked non-stop for hours. She was quiet, courteous, fast, and most importantly a skilled caftsman. The only time she was not hard at work is when she took a 10 minute break to eat something. Great work ethic. When done, hours later, she cleaned down the entire unit, vacuumed and cleaned the surrounding floor, and explained everything I needed to know, like how to use the dimmer switch for the lighting. I was blessed to have been assigned these two exemplary employees of California Closets. Five stars for each of them and five stars for California Closets with whom I have worked over the past few years on two separate occasions. I highly recommend this company and their employees.....top of the line."
"Did not have a good experience. My work with the rep was fine but once the contract was signed (October 2021) and I was provided with the installation date (January 18, 2022) things went south. We ordered a semi walk-in closet, a bathroom closet that's about 11 inches wide and 7 feet tall and a reach in closet. Chose the standard white color, went with the included handle and rod options. Cost = over $7000. First problem, after the install of the walk-in closet two drawers were missing. I arrived as the technicians were pulling out of the driveway. They didn't stop, just kept driving. I went in and inspected the work and noticed two drawers were missing. I called my sales rep and she said that two of the drawers were damaged and they would need to be replaced. She said she would get back to me on an delivery date for the drawers. Soon after I was communicating with someone else because my rep was out of the office. I was told that there was a wood shortage and they did not know when I would receive the two drawers. I reminded them that it took 3 months for the installation to take place. Now a wood shortage with no date in sight for delivery. I followed up with them several times, not them following up with me. On February 25, they advised me that they could deliver the drawers on April 5! On April 5, the tech arrived and informed me that on his way over to the home he took a sharp turn in his truck and one of the drawers was damaged. He installed it and said someone would contact me about a replacement. I emailed the new rep and voiced my concern about getting the damaged drawer replaced since I had to wait two and a half months for the two replacement drawers that just arrived with one of them being damaged. A pick up of the newly damaged drawer was scheduled for April 11. The return of that drawer was scheduled for April 12. The replacement drawer ended up being delivered on the same day that they had scheduled for the pick up. It really felt like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing at California Closets. Disorganized. That evening I was inspecting the closet again and noticed that the wood on one of the drawers was separating from the drawer door face. I also noticed that the top two replacement drawers that I had waited over two months for, were half drawers. The other six drawers are about 6 inches tall and the top drawers are about four inches. I believe I paid the same amount for each of the drawers but the top drawers are pretty much useless to me. They appear to be more like sock drawers which I did not need. We added the two top drawers because we wanted more space for our clothes. I contacted the rep again about the damaged drawer and the short top drawers. The drawer pick up was scheduled for April 12. The drawer was picked up. I had to follow up for information on the delivery date of the drawer because no one provided me with any information. The return date given was April 14. The drawer was returned. Still looks like it's separating but not like the original drawer. I just don't have the energy to deal with California closets any longer. The experience was horrible. Not what I expected from California closets. Heard about them for years and finally decided to hire them and it was not a pleasant experience. Each time I had to meet them at the property I had to make myself available for a 2-hour window. Not sure what I would have done if I was going into an office to work. Besides the installation day, I had to be available on four other occasions for their two hour arrival window. And for all my trouble, I got a $150 eGift card. It wasn't offered to me I had to ask multiple times what would be done as a courtesy for everything that went wrong with this installation and they offered some accessories or an eGift card. In regards to the size of the top two drawers, the rep said she explained the size of the top two drawers in our zoom call but, I do not recall that."
"It was a great experience. I loved the 3D presentation in the showroom. Marguerite was really easy to work with. She always responded to my emails quickly. She came up with a great design. The installation team also did a great job. We love our new mudroom! Thank you!"
"I had a great experience. The designer was very helpful which was really important to me because this was my first time using CA closets. She answered all of my questions and was always very quick to respond via email and phone. The guys who constructed my closet were awesome. They sent me a picture of the finished closet before they left--overall, my experience was very positive. I highly recommend using California Closets."
