"If you can handle a walk of roughly 2 miles, each way, give this a try. About a third of the hike is on a level rail trail, the rest is through a well blazed path in the woods, a bit rocky in places, with a moderate climb for the last half. The monument is in great shape and the trail is fairly well marked. See pictures. Once you leave the rail trail, look for the blue markers on the trees. And there was plenty of parking in a well marked dirt parking area along Thompson Road."
"This was an unexpected find. The history is very cool, horrible accident. The trail was easy to moderate. Very cool when you get to the marker."
"This hike was as a fun little jaunt with some neat history hidden in the landscape. Coming in from the west, the hike along the Air Line State Park Trail was easy and relaxing. The rail trail seemed well maintained, and there were hints of its industrial history shining through, including a small bridge or trestle crossing above the path and a well maintained culvert, which was worth diverting to take a look at. While there was nothing especially noteworthy about the tri-state marker, it was in good shape and happily free from vandalism or disturbance. The trail up to the marker was well marked, and it was not too difficult to branch off from the rail trail for a look. If you have a spare hour or so, I'd recommend parking nearby and checking this out! It's not often you can stand in three states all at once!"
"Nice hike. The rail trail segment is naturally quite flat. The part that goes south to the marker is a little more rigorous. We parked at the corner of high Street and SW Main which is Northeast of the marker. It took us about 20 to 25 minutes each way. There is some basic signage, but you'll want something along with a GPS so you know where you are."
"Nice hike. Look for Air Line State Park parking area on Thompson Rd. in Connecticut. The trail is easily seen across the road to the east. First 2/3rds is level abandoned rail bed. Go under the wooden bridge. At the marker shown, take a right and the trail is mostly rocky. Worth a look into something that's been there so long."
