About the Wolf Hill Forest Preserve
Wolf Hill Forest Preserve is a beautiful park and tourist attraction located on Waterview Drive in Smithfield, Rhode Island. As part of the Land Trusts initiative, this preserve encourages visitors to explore the outdoor spaces of Rhode Island safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Visitors can enjoy fresh and saltwater kayaking and canoeing in the Narragansett Bay watershed, from the Blackstone to the Wood-Pawcatuck, to the Taunton River in Massachusetts. The preserve offers the best places to launch a canoe or kayak for an adventurous experience.
For those who prefer walking and hiking, there are various trails to explore in Rhode Island. Whether you're looking for an easy walk in the park or a challenging day-long hike, there is a trail for everyone to enjoy.
As the weather warms up, visitors are reminded to dress appropriately for water activities, especially as the water temperature may still be cold. It is important to wear clothing that will keep you warm even if you get wet and always wear a life jacket for safety.
Visitors can access free trail maps on the Avenza maps platform, allowing them to track their location as they explore the trails. Additionally, Rhode Island's Blueways have been recognized by National Geographic as a "Best Adventure Destination for 2012," making it a must-visit for paddlers.
With 26 paddle trail maps available for various skill levels across the state, visitors can embark on water adventures on rivers, lakes, and salt ponds. These maps were created in partnership with watershed organizations and funded by the Rhode Island Foundation.
Explore the water trails on the mapping system and click on the routes for detailed water trail maps to plan your next paddling adventure at Wolf Hill Forest Preserve.
Reviews of Wolf Hill Forest Preserve
"My partner and I have done this trail before and it was CRAZY amount of inclines. BUT! We discovered what I haven’t seen on previous reviews and natural waterfall. It is absolutely GORGEOUS. The hike itself"
"Not the most scenic hike, but its still nice. If you stray from the main trails, you can do about a 5 mile loop."
"Very nice trails but definitely need to be prepared to hike some elevated hills"
"We had lots of fun here, lots to see, great trails, we only did a short loop, few other cool trails in area, we will be back!!"
"Great forest trails. Fairly rocky at certain points, but still passable with sure footing. Except for the electric transmission lines at some points along a couple of the trails, Wolf Hill has good nature immersion."
