Reviews of Laura Silverstein, LCSW
"I saw Laura speaking as part of a panel about bullying on "Puerto Rican Panorama" recently along with two attorneys - Stephanie Gonzalez and Tanya Alvarado. It was an excellent discussion about a really important topic. Laura presented a unique perspective and I especially appreciated the reminder that even the kids who are doing the bullying need help, not just punishment. She expressed genuine concern for both the victims and the bullies, reminding us that we must get to the root cause if we are really going to help prevent this problem. Very informative."
"Laura's expertise and professionalism exceeds many others in the industry. Laura's humor compassion and security provided when speaking with her creates a warm and friendly work environment."
"Eveyone going through this experience is vulnerable and fragile, I was lucky to have found this place. Sadly, after a year of counseling my husband and I decided to go our separate ways. During the process of counseling, I learned so much about myself and my partner. We were able to part ways as friends and get a divorce without the negativety. I felt that I wasn't alone in my journey and I appreciate the patience and guidance I received from Laura Silverstein at Main Line Counseling Partners. My ex husband and I are still able to support each with sincerety and friendship. The lessons I learned were invaluable."
"My husband and I had been struggling with our relationship for the past few years. While searching for a Gottman Certified therapist to push us into the right direction, we were referred to Laura Silverstein of Main Line Counseling Partners. We decided to attend one of Laura's workshops for couples, and we had a great experience. Laura listened intently to our backgrounds, watched us interact with one another, and gave us very useful insight as to how to communicate better with each other. She helped us become more aware of certain interactions that could be hurtful to our relationship, and then she put her focus on how we could become more positive towards one another to get to a better place in our relationship. My husband and I continued to see Laura after that workshop, and he and I have made amazing progress. Laura played a huge role getting us to where we are today, and I would refer her to others in a heartbeat."
"I researched counselors for the purpose of couples counseling for my soon-to-be ex husband and I. We were in the middle of a divorce and I wanted to see if counseling could help us reconcile. While we quickly realized that would not happen, we continued counseling in the hopes of getting the point of forgiveness so that we could be effective co-parents. From the beginning, I felt a strong bias from Ms. Silverstein for my ex. She seemed to have patience with him while she seemed to quickly jump on me. While I'm more apt to express my emotions, I felt I was being punished in a way for doing so as my soon to be ex sat there quietly. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when I told Ms. Silverstein and my ex that I wouldn't return to the Philadelphia area (I live six hours away and was commuting for the purpose of an amicable split) because I had found hard evidence that my ex (who lives in the Philadelphia area) had been having an affair, that he claims to only make $40,000/year as Executive Vice President of his father's company (creative accounting) but somehow has managed to buy two new cars, rehab his home including siding, windows, roofs, flooring....basically not a room was left untouched and yet can only "afford to pay $700/mo in child support." Understandably I was upset and while I felt Ms. Silverstein's office was a safe place to express my emotions, I was wrong. Upon stating that I wouldn't return, she said to me, and I quote "by saying that, you have just taken a hammer and hit your son over the head with it." Meaning, I am hurting my son because I refuse to drive six hours to feel ganged up on in a very expensive counseling session where my ex gets to sit there silently. I was FLOORED!! My first reaction was shock. How could a "professional" in this field make that kind of statement?! I was not the one who left their wife and child and move six hours away. I was not the one lying about my income to pay minimal in child support yet I was the one desperately trying to hold my family together or at least have an amicable split. I have never gone back and I DO NOT recommend Ms. Silverstein for couples counseling at all! She cannot seem to remain objective and she was absolutely unprofessional in her judgment of me."
