Reviews of Bright Horizons
"Great team!"
"Our child has been to a couple of different daycare centers, so I can provide some comparative analysis of Bright Horizons at Upper Gwynedd. The place is clean, I don't hear about other kids being rough (that can be a problem at some daycare centers) and the center has nice, friendly clean-cut teachers (again, maybe doesn't seem like it's worth mentioning but check out other places and you'll see what I mean). The prices are really high. 100 dollars more per age group than any our previous place, and that was the best of the best in its area. Also, at our old daycare you could pay with a credit card, which was nice because with the amount you're paying you can build up miles or points fast. Here its check only, and they want it on the 25th, not the 1st. They do feed the kids lunch so you don't have to pack food for todders and above, so that is a bonus you don't get at other places. Frankly I do think my child was making better academic progress before attending Bright Horizons. We used to see progress every week with new words etc. Now it seems if we don't teach it there's not a whole lot of new things learned. I think they could put more effort into academics- the place clearly has the capability... and I mean for the price you might expect a progressive environment. One other moderate gripe I have is that they tend to be very quick to delay opening or close when there is bad weather. Granted, we have had a pretty bad winter. Bright Horizons, however, seems to close when most other places don't. One of the reasons we chose this place is that it's associated with Merck. However, this place shuts down all the time sending emails saying "in close coordination with Merck we've decided to close." Well that's funny, Merck is still open but you're closed, so what are those of us who are employees supposed to do? To be fair, Merck hardly ever closes. They do, however, have delayed openings from time to time. Even concerning delays, Bright Horizons will have a delay until 10AM when Merck is not choosing to delay opening, leaving those of us paying a premium price for this daycare with no other option than to be late to our morning meetings... again. I really wish they would be a little more thoughtful/conservative with delays and closings. The decision seems to be case-by-case and off the cuff, and doesn't seem to follow any of the local schools or businesses. Holidays are also a little bit of an issue... case in point, I'm sitting home today taking a day off work writing this while my little one takes a nap, because Bright Horizons is closed on President's day but Merck is open. There goes another vacation day!"
