"A client hired me to sell his sibling's home and I needed to have the home emptied before I had the home painted and updated for sale. I hired Alexandria Auctions to help me out and in less than two days, they completely emptied the home. When doing the final clean up and sweep, they found the owner's mother's wedding ring and set it aside for me to return to the family. Talk about ethical employees! Any one of the worker's could have easily pocketed the ring without anyone knowing. In addition, when they were all done, they set aside the ashes from beloved family pets, ensuring they were to be treated lovingly, and make sure they didn't end up in a landfill. I cannnot say enough nice things about Josh and his entire team! A++++ Service!"
"I just picked up my awesome lion lamp today and am surprised that I hadn't written a review sooner. I discovered Alexandria Auctions at the height of the pandemic and love all of the amazing, and often hard-to-find, items that are available. Furthermore, the photos are clear plus the item descriptions are much appreciated as these are not usually available (and when they are, they're quite vague) on other, local auction sites. Buying is always a breeze & staff is friendly & helpful!"
"I have used Alexandria Auctions for 4 separate auctions. Each time I have been impressed with the total amount of money received from their auctions. Another thing I like is the ease of dealing with the staff. I bring stuff in, they make recommendations on price, write up descriptions, take pictures and then advertise the items. Then, if all sells, I get a nice check and NO HASSLE. For stuff that doesn't sell, it's gotta be picked up after the auction. Why? Because space is scarce and they run 1 or sometimes 2 auctions a WEEK. Being prompt for pickup is almost a requirement. Not sure why there are other whiny reviews about that, ANY auction house will have this as a rule. The awesome thing with this whole consignment thing is that they do all the work outside of you providing some guidance. If you need stuff picked up, like say at Aunt Mildred's house, they'll send a truck and pick up anything and everything. In 4 separate auctions involving hundreds of pieces, I've only had ONE item not sell. I bring them stuff, they give me a check a few weeks later. It's hard to turn this kind of service down. I will use Alexandria Auctions for all of my future consignment needs."
"Cheated & Mistreated? I was bidding using one of the online portals and I absentee bid on many lots. Unfortunately I only won one lot. Because I couldn't predict what lots I won, I couldn't arrange shipping in advance (as recommended) with the auction house. Come time to arrange shipping, I' learned their rules are VERY STRICT and the curt and inflexible Mr. Wilbanks made it clear, they would not deviate from their policies under no circumstances. What was my big ask? To use my FedEx account number (or shipping label I'd send them) and drop 1 gold necklace in a FedEx envelope for me. Should have cost me about $6 total. Nope! I was required to use UPS who charged $8 to pickup the necklace and nearly $10 to ship it (photo attached). Finally, when received, there was a discrepancy on the lot with the weight of the white gold. The listing said 8 grams but when received the paper said it's 7.1 grams (photos attached). At ~$40/gram that's certainly worth mentioning when calculating the listing value and final hammer bid/price. Mr. Wilbanks and their website make it clear there are thousands of customers worldwide, but one simple gesture of customer service for your local (in Virginia) customers could have really gone far to earn a loyal customer. This time friends, you came up short, but like Frank Sinatra, you did it your way!"
"Great place to get absolutely awesome deals! I've probably purchased items that are well over $15,000 to $20,000 in total value and actually spent less than $1,500. The owner is very helpful. One auction was in Bowie, MD and I was unable to get up there to pick up the items. I asked him if he could bring those items down. This was an Ethan Allen dining room table, antique mahogany sideboard. I told Josh I was unable to pick them up, not a problem, just let him know which Saturday I was coming by to pick them up. He brought them down from Bowie, MD to Woodbridge, VA! When I picked up the dinning room table, about a week later it was wrapped in moving cloth. I asked Josh if he needed to keep it and he told me if I needed to barrow it, I could. I told him I brought my own moving blankets to protect the furniture. So I swapped out his moving blankets for mine. At another auction My wife came along to assist in carrying a large Thomasville China Cabinet at one of the auctions. No way she was able to help, Josh stepped right in and helped me carry the China Cabinet to the truck. Absolutely didn't have to do that. Just goes to the caliber of a person he is to help out! One last thing, the descriptions on the auction are pretty close. I generally can't make it out to the pre-viewing of the auction items, so I rely upon the photos and description. One of the items, I called Josh to verify a description, no problem. Your getting great estate items at a fraction of the price you would pay anywhere else. Finally, I wouldn't expect a canopy if it was raining... I would just bring a tarp to cover the furniture while carrying it to the truck. Definitely recommend checking out Alexandria Auction if you haven't yet! Well worth your time and savings!! Mark"
