"My husband and I reserved a table for Sunday morning at 11:45 and it was packed almost to capacity. The countertop and bar seatings were pretty much all open though. We got there on time and, while we weren't expecting to be seated right away, we had to wait 15 minutes. There were many people waiting and I'm not sure if they give priority to the ones with reservations or not. It wasn't a big deal. I'd probably just show up and sit at the bar or counter tops if you don't mind these options. The host and servers were very nice and the service gets 5 stars. They were polite, professional, and quick. The food on the other hand was not up to par. The sandwich with 2 eggs and a couple of pieces of bacon was very small, no sides for $13. The shrimp and crab roll, for $18, was bigger, the butter roll was very good but the shrimp and crab salad didn't have much flavor. Again no side; I some greens with dressing could even be enough and definitely make the presentation a bit better. The cappuccino and Americano were very good. I think I had higher expectations because the Speckled egg is mentioned often on Internet as one of the best places for brunch but, while it was good and our experience was overall ok, I am not sure I can say that it was one of the best I've had. The location is great though and convenient and they have outdoor tables in summer where you can sit with your puppy so maybe we'll come back later in the year to enjoy the outdoor tables."
"So happy I finally got to eat here! I always go to the Commonplace Coffee next door, but haven’t had time to stay and eat breakfast. Our waiter (it was his 31st bday today) was one of the nicest and happiest people I’ve ever met. Everyone working there seems very passionate about the menu, sourcing of the ingredients from the local community, and customer service. Our waiter even went out of the way to make a fresh iced Earl Grey tea when they ran out. The strawberry French toast, the potatoes, and the tea were all fantastic. Cant wait to come back!"
"The Speckled Egg at South Side Works is a bright, bustling, modern diner. When we visited we dined outside on the patio. I do have to say that the patio table and chairs were a bit uncomfortable. I tried the bloody mary, which was pretty good. I also had the Hen's Hash, which was really tasty. I really enjoyed the cremini mushrooms sauteed in the hash. I would go back to the Speckled Egg. I would like to try some different menu items."
"This is obviously a popular place. Waited about 15 to 20 minutes to be seated at a counter. The wait was worth it!! The omelet i had was wonderful. Pictures speak a thousand words, so here is my 1k word essay!"
"The space is modern with clean lines and neutral colors but it is VERY loud. The music was set too loud for a space that lacks anything to dampen the sound. It gets expensive quickly, but I suppose this is a function of the current economy. Through the Garden toast ($14) was tasty, with quality ingredients. Hen's Hash ($15) was bland and sparse in the advertised vegetables. Additionally, I ordered ONE house-made sausage patty ($4), which was very good. Service was great!"
