Reviews of University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center
"This hospital has been a severe let down. My Mother went to this hospital when it first opened and it was great. They cared and treated patients like friends and family. Today, I have never been so disgusted and disappointed. This hospital has gone downhill. My Mother has been paralyzed for about 20 years. We went to this hospital around 2:30pm and still have not been admitted for her wounds and infection. The ER nurse name tag Cherena, tried to force her to get out of the wheelchair because they needed them. When I told her that was unacceptable, she brought security to forcibly remove her. Never have I experienced and witnessed such treatment for a patient. The only reason why they get one star is for the hospitality and security team. They empathaized and brought items to help my Mother relieve pressure while we waited on those hard uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room. You need to train nurses with empathy and care. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but she was uncaring for my mother and a man in abdominal pain throwing up."
"Our experience with this hospital was with surgical and cardiac ICU units and was excellent. The professionalism and care was life saving. The employees, doctors, nurses, techs, and support staff were always welcoming and supportive. At a time of great stress for our family, they met our needs with compassion and sincerity. We will be forever grateful."
"Do not go to the ER unless you have no other option. The wait time is 5hrs or more. It could be 6 people in the waiting area to be seen and somehow it will still take that long. Ridiculous! Been here since 1:30am it’s currently 7:30am. My son has a sore throat and fever. The medicine I gave him before coming in has worn off. I’ve been asking for an hour if someone can give him Motrin with no luck. At this point I’m just waiting for urgent care to open so I can take him there. And I still had to pay for parking"
"If I could give them 0 stars I would. I was in another ER (which is affiliated with them) and was told at 4PM that I would get transferred to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center at 1AM in the morning. I ended up not getting there til 5am. I was in so much pain and people could see it so I asked for pain medicine from the doctor who came to see me. She told me she put my request for pain medicine in but 3 hours later when the nurse FINALLY came to see me, he said it wasn't in the system at ALL. I have an ovarian torsion which is EXTREMELY painful. I didn't get my pain medicine until another 2 hours. Do you know how hard it is to flag down a nurse there? You'd have a better chance talking to a wall. My mom had to constantly stand at the door or go down long hallways to FIND nurses because it seemed like there was only one nurse for over 20 ED units! She's a 73 year old woman! And not only that, when she went to get me food (since they didn't even BOTHER to try to get me anything), she had to wait an additional 45 minutes until they would let her take it to me. I couldn't even ask for water because I saw the nurse maybe once every 5 hours. I was fussed at by a doctor because I drank some water earlier (at like 3am!) and she told me from then on I couldn't eat or drink anything but they barely gave me IV fluids so I was super dehydrated. By the time I saw the next doctor, the only thing they told me was that they wanted me to go to my OWN doctors to have them see what they think. I was brought to this hospital because THEY were supposed to help me with my ovarian torsion. They just kept me in their hospital from 5am to 7pm just to tell me to contact my own doctors. In summary: I wasn't offered/given food/drink, had to practically BEG for IV fluids and pain medicine, and they didn't even fix/try to fix the problem. DO. NOT. GO. HERE."
