Reviews of VHC Health - Primary Care Old Town
"Be ready for the hard core upsell! I only needed one minor RX refill, in Jan of 2022. I called in advance saying that was all I needed, was not looking for anything else as I already have established primary care etc. They said not a problem. Dr. kept mentioning bloodwork, well woman, pap, physical etc, when I kept saying I had that covered already, just need RX. She still put it on the over extensive write up so 3 people keep trying to set up more appt. I moved to 2 different places in Alexandria and I keep getting marketing materials about this place. They did eventually fill the Rx and it was clean, but there is better in area."
"Dr. Ryan is a good doctor however I didn't like many things about the clinic. First they always refer to VHC clinics, which pays them the most, and, if you need to find another provider they will not help you find an outside provider and are slow to approve the referral. Staff and facility are top notch unless you disagree with their recommendations, then they will demand compliance or kick you out of the practice and ban you."
"Best pap ever! I had my annual well woman exam and from the start I was treated warmly. Melissa the Medical Assistant is MARVELOUS. Shout out to Nidhi Reva, PA-C, MPH. We shared a connection immediately and I knew I was in wonderful hands. I was super impressed that I didn’t have to go anywhere for blood tests. Melissa came in and deftly got the samples. They both were warm, friendly, and professional. I’m leaving the area but may need to return next year. Highly recommend. It was my best experience ever with a medical team. Both are top-notch."

"**Update since last post** 8/13/21 I received a call from the Practice Manager who was very apologetic and understanding of my situation. Like the NP Yvonne Pierce, she was very kind and made sure I felt comfortable and heard. She addressed my issues and stated she took my feedback and spoke with staff to ensure future patients do not encounter the same issues. It was a pleasant experience, and I am happy that I was able to speak to someone about my concerns. She apologized for the delay as well. Although this was a pleasant phone call, I personally will not be returning to this facility due to the treatment from the other medical staff I encountered, but I do hope that positive change has been implemented for future patients. July 2021 I scheduled an annual OBGYN visit as a new patient with Yvonne Pierce NP. While at my annual, I also had been experiencing other symptoms, so I brought them up as part of the exam. The NP performed the exam, collected lab samples, and took the time to make sure I felt comfortable as a new patient. However, everything following this was a disaster. Upon receipt of the test results days later via the patient portal, I had some follow up questions and messaged the NP on the portal. Despite the antibiotics the NP prescribed, I was still experiencing symptoms. I was messaged back by Tilisha Wyatt CMA, who after multiple messages sent back and forth, dismissed my symptoms I was still experiencing, stating I should see a primary care physician. I was left confused by this message, because I sought care at this facility, discussed these symptoms in person at the exam, and the treatment the NP prescribed did not improve my clinical signs, and now because that treatment did not work I was instructed to seek care at a primary care facility? I felt that my needs as a patient were being dismissed. I requested a call from the NP to discuss, and the next morning I received a call from a receptionist, and again was not allowed to speak with the NP. I told the receptionist I understood the NP was busy, and that I was happy to receive a call back later that day. Again, I was told this was not possible. Tilisha eventually answered the phone and stated that my symptoms “are not a OBGYN problem, they are a GP problem." My experience was then worsened when I received the billing statement for not just the annual exam and lab work, but two exam fees (one for a sick visit and one for an annual). I was again left confused and frustrated, because only one exam was performed (with the add on lab work) and it appeared I was being overcharged. I followed up with the billing department, who instructed me to email their customer service. I sent an email on July 1st, and have yet to hear back from their staff. I sent my email multiple times over one week (as the man in billing also said it takes 1-2 days for a response and to resend it if there was no response). The only update I received was by Yulanda who stated, "All of your emails have been received and forwarded to the office, the appropriate destination." None of my concerns were addressed in this update. Overall, this experience has left me feeling disregarded and disrespected as a patient (not to mention a new patient). I strongly encourage you to think twice before establishing care here, especially if you are experiencing any symptoms or are pregnant, as your concerns may not be addressed and you may be left to seek care elsewhere if it is "not an OBYN problem." Luckily I was not experiencing any life threatening symptoms and sought care elsewhere for a second opinion, because if I had been and they worsened I could have been seriously injured. The medical staff does not uphold even the minimum standard of care or compassion required to "do no harm.""
