District 5

"11/26/23 we have a birthday party reservation for about 20. I understand that there was a shooting or some type of crime committed which led to the temporary closing of the restaurant however if that's the case you should be REQUIRED to call your reservations and let them know. We all start showing up and realize what's happening. We are all disappointed, hungry and cold. Fortunately Social52 down the street accommodated us."

"Great expirence over all, they advertised several beers on tap, but when we went, several were unavailable. However, the bar staff were quick to make recommendations for other similar beers. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and very respectful to guests (even the ones who had a little too much to drink). The food was great, and we ended up spending hours here and a little over $100. I will recommend it to friends and I plan to come here again."

"The steak egg rolls were the best I've had in a long time. The drinks were a hit or miss. Service was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Loved all the space. It was crowded, but we didn't feel like we were sitting on top of ppl."

"Where to begin? We had gone to Sidewalk Cafe a few blocks away, but they were on a very long wait. We called District 5 and they said there was no wait for a party of 8, that should have been the first red flag. When we arrived the 4 men in our group were patted down for weapons, no explanation was given for this, despite our obvious surprise. None of the women were searched, not even their bags. We were allowed in after the pat down, despite all 4 of us having pocket knives on us that were not discovered, or ignored during the search. The place is big, with high ceilings, lots of windows, and dozens of tap handles behind the bar. Once seated we started looking at the menu and discussing our choices, but soon after we were greeted we were informed that they were only doing appetizers and the brunch menu. Our server was nice, but it was clear the kitchen was not making her job easy. We started receiving our food staggered, with several minutes between item arriving at the table, and a few items missing. The portion sizes were large, but not cooked well. All the dishes that had poached eggs were served overcooked, as well as the over easy eggs. That part was super disappointing. Some items were very dry as well, like the brisket Mac and cheese. Sadly we won't be returning to District 5. Hopefully they can get the help they need in the kitchen. Keep in mind the restaurant was only at about half capacity."

"Stopped in for dinner and drinks before going to a show at Altria Theater. Got there at 5:30 on a Thursday evening, the place was about 1/3 full. Good happy hour specials for both food and drink. A big selection of 2 for $10 appetizers that several of us ended up just ordering for the meal. I had a garden salad with grilled salmon added. It seems weird to review a salad but it was really delicious. Everyone else was also satisfied with the food. Drinks were pretty slow coming from the bar even though there were 3 bartenders working and mixed drinks seemed weak. The server was nice but also had tables out on the patio which made his job tough to be attentive in two places at once. With more and more restaurants in this area competing to serve the smallest, fanciest, most overpriced dishes, it's nice to have a place like this serving traditional favorites that a good tasting and fairly priced."
