"I contacted this outfit for a quote for providing carpentry services. They charged $250 to come to my house to see the job (my house is less than 5 miles from their office). The "project manager" borrowed measurements made by another contractor who was there at the time and didn't bother to take measurements of his own. He was more concerned about collecting my $250 check and chatting with the other contractor. I expected to receive the quote in a couple of days (per the receptionist's suggestion prior to the site visit) but instead got an email that my quote was "in the queue" and wouldn't be ready for over 4 weeks. The quote didn't arrive until I made another request after 4 weeks. When it arrived I was amazed at their solution for securing floor joists to an I-beam: Bent nails! When I pushed back and reminded them that their "project manager" was supposedly "researching" an elegant solution to the task I wanted completed he held firm and said that there was no code for this sort of thing and that bent nails would do. Mind you, their quote was not cheap! I guess he never mentioned that conversation to the office because they sent me several emails saying they were "excited" to get started. LOL Sorry, I hired a real contractor who gave me a different solution (not bent nails)."
