Reviews of Washington Interventional Psychiatry (Ketamine and TMS center)
"For ketamine-- The nurses are AMAZING (shout-out to Siobhan!). They're so kind and caring you'll forget that you're a chronic people pleaser whose mere existence is an annoyance to the rest of the world. I have chronic, lifelong depression (no trauma) and have tried all the drugs, TMS, a grippy sock vacation, etc. TMS helped, but I kept feeling like I wasn't as undepressed as I *could* be. The ketamine has helped immensely. Here's what worked for me: 1. Give it time. Like, until several weeks after your seventh appointment. A lot of research and websites say it works within hours, and maybe that's the case for people in immediate crisis, but it was not my experience. I thought for sure it hadn't worked and was in a bad place, and then one day I woke up and thought life seemed pretty good and felt like actually doing stuff. 2. Maintenance. It's amazing feeling the way apparently non-depressed people do, but it's not permanent. It's a treatment, not a cure. Things in your life WILL get you down again, but you'll be able to bounce back faster, and getting treatment when you feel yourself slipping is super important. 3. Having a bad trip doesn't mean the ketamine isn't working, but it will really bum you out, and you're already pretty bummed out. Here's what ALWAYS gave me a good trip: exercise right before your session. I've had eight treatments, and the only three good trips I've had were when I ran 3 miles to the office. Obviously that's not doable for everyone, but if you can do something physical to get the endorphins flowing, it seems to help. I also listen to upbeat jazz during my sessions, which literally feels like a warm, golden hug, so I recommend some Coltrane, Gillespie, Davis, Rollins, etc. My partner says metal works for him. We've both found that amorphous, new agey music is kind of freaky when you don't understand why you have feet or how to use a spoon. Music with a solid beat helps move the session forward and grounds you back to reality just a little bit, and believe me, you're going to want that. 4. Ask your nurse to slow down the drip if you feel like you're hanging on to the back of a runaway train. When my dose increased, I felt like I was being dragged by wild horses toward a black hole of many colors. The trip is much less intense when the drip is slowed. I've actually found it pretty relaxing (if I exercise first). 5. Don't schedule anything stressful for the rest of the day after your session. Obviously this is more of a wish list item because jobs, amirite? But if you can keep your meetings to a minimum and move stressful projects a little farther out, it'll increase your chances of a good trip. While you're under, you won't understand what a job is, how yours works, or even remember how to get there, but you will have a vague notion that you have something stressful to do later, and it'll harsh your buzz. 6. My fellow ladies, keep track of your mood throughout your cycles. If you're like me, and your uterus makes you sad, it can give the false impression that you're not getting better. Your cycle affects your depression, so you have to keep track of what's actually making you feel terrible--the big Depression or the terrible hand the universe dealt you when you were born with ovaries."
"My experience with Dr. Raczynski was very positive. He was kind, patient and understanding. He put me at total ease and most importantly, he earned my trust. My experience today was fantastic and I look forward to my treatments with with him and getting back to being me again. Thank you Dr. Raczynski."
"Dr Reddy was very cordial, empathetic, patient and extremely informative. He made me feel comfortable enough that I was not hesitant in asking him any questions."
"WIP has been life-changing by providing the latest treatments that are considerably more effective while also taking considerably less time to take effect. The doctors, nurses and staff are all really helpful, knowledgeable, and care about you. They are amazingly quick to respond to questions and have on more than one occasion gone out of their way to make sure I got the treatment I needed."
"Dr. Leslie Rokoske is a very special doctor. She is by nature, very compassionate and her interest in you as her patient is palpable. She is also very proficient in tweaking your medication so that you are on the correct dosage. I have been seeing her for almost three years and I am more than satisfied. She is an excellent doctor!"
