Reviews of The Accolade on Chestnut
"Same problem as Xinran! Never got my deposit back! I originally signed a contract and paid a deposit in March 2023, but I re-let it to someone else in August. It's been over 5 months now, and I still haven't received my deposit refund. Initially, Accolade promised a refund within 30 days after the subletting process ended. Later when I followed up, they said the check could only be mailed to the address provided in my application, which I had since moved from. They then suggested filling out an international transfer form, which I did since I was not in the US at that time. However, communication was lost afterwards. In January 2024, they said they had reached the manager and the refund would be processed soon, they said they would send me an email with a verification link in 3-5 days. But it has been 2 weeks, they never send me anything! This experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing! I don't know when can I get my deposit back!"
"I would like to sincerely share with you some of the unpleasant experiences I am currently experiencing with this apartment. All tenants are required to pay a deposit of $1,615 before moving in. It has been a full month since I moved out of this apartment, and I still have not successfully received the deposit that was supposed to be returned to me. What needs to be stated is that I followed the formal procedures for reletting in accordance with the apartment contract, and meticulously restored the room to its original appearance before handing over the keys. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the apartment to return the full amount of $1,615 to me. Since the day I moved out of the apartment on December 8, I have been actively discussing the deposit return with the apartment in various ways, but what makes me very anxious and disturbed is the apartment's response and processing speed. All extremely slow. As long as I don't contact them, they will never contact me. Because I am no longer in the United States, I can only communicate with them through emails and phone calls, but the staff seems not to want to follow up on this matter at all, and they are constantly passing the buck to each other. Until now, I have no idea how this matter has been followed, because no one, whether the front desk, the manager, or the accounting department, can inform me of the exact progress. Is it because I can't talk with you in person that you don't plan to return the deposit to me at all??? For every international student, this is not a small amount of money!!! I question the entire apartment's attitude towards the refund of the tenant's deposit. No matter it is the front desk, manager, or accounting department, no evidence allows me to see the apartment's willingness to actively face this matter. I have completed the relet following all the requirements of the apartment, then how can you deprive me of my legal rights as a tenant in this way? I suggest all students who are considering renting the Accolade on Chestnut to consider it carefully. After all, facing such an apartment with chaotic procedures and complete disregard for tenants' rights, what I am experiencing now is endless anxiety and pain."
"My dryer still isn't fixed, and it's been three months. Despite numerous emails, their latest response was, "We have identified the problem but cannot provide an exact time for the fix." Why did it take three months to identify the issue? And why are half of the apartment dryers broken in the first place? Seriously? The building is either designed or finished so poorly that rooms in the southern wing are unbearably hot without the cooling on, while those in the northern wing are freezing without heating. They respond to complaints from half of us by turning off the heating option, leaving the other half shivering in rooms at a chilly 62°F. I find myself needing a jacket in my own room - winter indeed came. Now, with both issues combined: my laundry stayed damp for nearly a week because there's no heating in the room, and the dryer is broken! To be fair, what's the big deal behind all of this? The management team seems to think they're doing a great job – after all, the rent is increasing! How exciting!"
"I've had a series of disappointing experiences with my apartment that I feel need to be shared. The washbasin in the bathroom is so fragile that it was easily damaged by a plastic bottle. However, what is even more unacceptable is the response to this issue. It has been over two months since I reported the damaged basin, and the only action taken by the maintenance staff has been to apply a layer of glue. The overall build quality of the apartment is equally frustrating. For instance, the window handles are extremely prone to falling off, revealing that they're just cheaply glued rather than properly fixed. This not only shows a lack of quality but also a potential safety hazard. The most troublesome issue, however, is with the stove. It frequently goes out, making the cooking experience very frustrating and time-consuming. This, combined with the other issues, contributes to a living environment that is far below acceptable standards. Given these ongoing problems, I can't recommend this apartment. The lack of quality and proper maintenance significantly diminishes the living experience here."
"The air conditioner can't adjust the temperature during winter, and the apartment didn't respond when it received an email complaint. I have to hold ice cubes in my hand to cool down in this modern society. In the evening, I need ice cubes to cool down, and in the morning, I need to move a whole box of water by shoulder. Not only do manual labor during the day, but also can't sleep at night."
